Hi all,
Just joined the drop for the HE4XX. These will be my first planar magnetic headphones. Just a question:
How will these compare to Philips Fidelio X2 (headphones I currently own and use for everything)? Owner input from HE400/i owners would be greatly appreciated.

AudioNoobI owned the X2 and 400i.
X2: I appreciated its looks, comfort, and durability - but thought its sound was off in a few ways: grainy (not smooth), a large mid-bass hump, major sub-bass roll-off, unnatural treble tuning, and an overly wide sound-stage - without focused center imaging.
400i: Much better tuning - especially in the treble - but still lacking sub-bass. Excellent sound-staging. I wasn't a fan of its headband system (and never owned the original 400), so I'm curious to see how the 4XX does.

AudioNoobStaging is VERY different. Width of stage shrinks, depth is about the same. Vocals move forward a good bit. Detail retrieval is far superior on the 400i. With a good amp, you shouldn't miss out too much on bass, and I think the 400i's bass is better controlled. the down side being you really need an amp. I think instruments sound more natural, and overall, the effect for listening to music, at least, is that you get more of the feeling you're there "live" rather than listening to a recording.

SqueeThank you both for your replies.
I use a SoundBlaster X7 as my amp so hopefully the 4XX pairs well with it.
