Was about to join but then I saw the ship date. It's simply unacceptable. Were the first buyers given a better date? If not this is just ridiculous. Sorry, but this feels like joining a kickstarter or something with dates that far down the line. I just joined Massdrop, but I hope this is an exception among ship dates here.
Absolutely not an exception. That's how exclusives/Massdrop made products work - you pay upfront, they produce them with the money you've paid them, they ship them to you down the line. It works exactly like Kickstarter except you don't have to worry whether or not the seller/project starter is reputable because Massdrop will always deliver (eventually).
When it comes to other drops where you buy regular products that are readily available elsewhere/already produced or that aren't Massdrop made then the wait time will be much shorter for obvious reasons.
Ah, I didn't realize that it was specially made. I guess I didn't understand. If they have to make 2500 of them all for this, then I can see the wait time. Regardless, I will probably not join many drops that are that far in the future for something like this.
Thanks for the info.
No problem! And that's understandable of course, not a system that pleases everybody.
Yea, it's specially made and the wait time is pretty long considering the fairly low unit limit. Still, that's kinda the time it usually takes for most exclusives to be pushed out.
There are a few exceptions to this. I seem to remember my akg 7xx shipping pretty quickly
The first drop I participated in was back in June, for a pair of Fostex T-X0 planar magnetic headphones. The ship date is October 10th. Disappointing, but they clearly stated in the description this was a specially-made batch only for Massdrop. They're using the original tooling to manufacture one last batch, so I understand I'm in for a wait. This is why for most run-of-the-mill items I will shop elsewhere. But I keep checking back to see if anything truly special is popping up.
Yeah I know how you feel. I'm trying to buy a year 2020 car but it won't ship til the end of 2019. I mean what the hell man.
I understand now that they are specially made and have to be put to order, but I don't see how that's cost effective for the company. I thought the point of MD was to buy up excessive inventory or do bulk orders for the community, not create a new strain on a company's resources with ship dates far down the line to accommodate having special tagging or even unique features.
Consider me informed now, but I would much rather have one of their standard offerings if it meant a closer ship date. I don't require any custom-made hardware to be happy.
