Just got mine...looks like keepers..passed initial listening test on Pink Floyd the wall. Seem balanced, neutra, spacious...imo u need an amp for planars unless u like low volume listening.. these are doing well with my aune t1se.. will take me a week or two, then i will compare to my other phones, but initial impressions are solid. These are my 1st planars.

MarcSpenceHave you tried listening to Dark Side of the Moon? I was a bit underwhelmed by these at first, but after listening to Time I totally get it.

MarcSpenceThe only other high end headphones that I have are some Sennheisser PXC550's that I got for traveling. Their sound quality is pretty good for noise canceling, wireless headphones although not in the same league and the Hifiman. I also got a pair of AKG M220's a few months back on Massdrop while waiting for the HE4XX's to arrive. They are not bad for $50 cans although the stock pads are awful. I'm only just getting back into using headphones for music as my kids seem to have laid claim to my home theater system for gaming and movies.

JamieNZcool..listened too dark side last night..im happy. Im throwing alot of genres at them. they seem like the best of my limited stash of cans. Im leaning towards the 6xx or 700 sennheisers for next pair. I have sennheiser hd598 and love them, especially on female vocals and watching movies. i have the ath m50x to use when wife is in the room and those are way over hyped imo, so a good set of closed cans is down the road as well. Im using an aune t1 se tube/ ss amp and i think im going for the schitt jotenheim with balanced dac. Then i can compare tube dac to the internal balanced dac in the jot and upgrade to balanced cables. Btw the jot can run anything including the hifiman he6 which i may get if the 4xx prove to be a goto can. Great thing is you can buy and sell gear on ebay with little loss. The 4xx were my 1st new cans and i would think i could sell them for close to what i paid down the road. So much has changed since i was last really into my music! I just turned 48 and stuff was much more espensive 20 years ago..now there seems to be a big market for higher end stuff and so many great choices. I spend hours on headfi and other forums..lol.. all things considered its a cheap hobby compared to cars or boats..haha
