Very poor build quality. The screw came out just after my first 20 mins trial. Judging by the very springy yoke, a brass base molded into the can is likely to come out if the screw doesn't fail. Contacted MD customer service for a return yesterday but no reply so far other than a short message that my inquiry has been forwarded to their Engineering Dept.
EDIT: Massdrop took care of return and refund with ease. Customer service had been helpful and courteous throughout the process.
It is an opportunity to attempt replacing the headband completely with something batter.
Any idea if there are any compatible ones to try?
I'm quite certain you can find compatible headbands somewhere online but it would be nice to spend that time and effort on enjoying music instead. For sound quality alone, I would recommend HE4XX as it was very fun to listen because of interesting sound stage and bass compared to K240 and HD650 I own. In addition, Massdrop customer service has been helpful and courteous. Give them a try. If you encounter the same problem, you can simply return them without any hassle. Masssdrop will take care of the rest.
true, that one can return the item while under warranty, however, what about all the people who's screw will "break" it's mating interface outside of warranty? Looks to me like this issue must be a design problem with the model.., Imagine buying these and only using them a few times before the warranty runs out, then finding the issue? That said, would you suppose that a quality replacement screw would have solved your immediate problem?
