Is there a place to get a good quality cable for these headphones without having to fork over $129 to Hifiman? My headphones have 3.5mm connectors on both ends.
Here's a link on Amazon for "Compatible with Hifiman HE4XX". Lists both single ended (SE) and balanced. It appears from my searching that the Beyerdynamic T1 Second Gen and T5p Second Gen also have the dual 3.5mms at the ear cups and these sellers are re-purposing these Beyer aftermarket cables towards the latest dual 3.5mm generation of the 4XX, 400i, and other newer HiFiMAN cans. Just read the descriptions carefully as, having the current shipping HE-4XX, you'll want to make sure you get the dual 3.5mm with what ever source end you need.
I just ordered this balanced cable for my new (received early Oct 18) HE-4XX with the dual 3.5mms. I have no idea of the quality but it seems like it'll be decent enough. I also have an aftermarket balanced cable for my HD58X, not this brand, but it has the uncovered wire and it sounds fine, can hear the improvement over SE. I like the uncovered wire as it has very little mass and kind of disappears when I'm wearing it. Hope this cable will behave similarly. And the price is right for me. I've also got the FiiO BL35 3.5mm Male to 2.5mm Female balanced adapter cable, so if this new cable works out I can just pop it on the end of the new cable and won't have to switch cables when I go to a 3.5mm SE source. That has been working well so far with my 58X balanced cable. Here's a link to the 4-XX balanced cable I just bought:
