Not sure I like the RE-0 even at this price. These have good treble, but lack bass.

MazinkaiserThese are supposed to have more bass than the RE-0's.

MazinkaiserEven if they do have more low end than the original RE-0s, why does every IEM have to emphasize bass? Different earphones shine with different styles. Why limit yourself to only a few styles of music and one kind of frequency emphasis?

Varholiaglimpa good IEM, headphone or speaker system would be balanced in lows, mids and highs. This is why the original RE-0 was lousy.

Mazinkaiseri would say it depends on each person. to a bass lover a balance system might not be a good IEM, headphone or Speaker

VarholiaglimpPeople are saying that the RE-0's were bass LIGHT. Meaning that the originals had emphasized mids and highs. If this is the case, adding more bass will not make an emphasis on the bass, but instead make the IEM's flatter than they were prior.
People were waiting for a drop "like this" involving a discontinued earphone? I thought RE-0 was gone forever from Hifiman's/Head-direct's production lines.
RE0 has emphasized treble and bass depending on what tips you put on it. More bass than treble or more treble than bass depending on how a person uses it. The sound becomes most balanced with Ultimate Ears grey tips, to my ears, and was my preferred way of using it. With other tips, a user will most likely get a V-shaped sound of some kind or another out of RE0, in my opinion.
And to emphasize what has been said, this earphone probably isn't for bass lovers who must have +8-12dB bass boost relative to the rest of the audio band.

Valensilius_ZephyrusAppreciate it. It's hard to trust people online nowadays most don't know what they're talking about, glad you could clear it up for me, and most definitely some others.

Given your endorsement of the post to which you're responding, I'm surprised you took my statement so literally. "Waiting for a drop like this" also can mean "waiting for an opportunity to buy those dearly departed earphones (i) in my moo-hanking dreams or (ii) something comparable at the same miser-friendly price." Whether or not anyone *expected the RE-0s of X00-mas past to be dropped* is a topic for foonts who itch to ken whether the grass on the other side of the fence really is greener. "What do you mean 'the grass is always greener'?! It's the same bloody color!" "No, it isn't! Grass looks *nothing* like blood!"
"RE0 has emphasized treble and bass depending on what tips you put on it, " etc.
Valensilious, light o' my life, you're going to have to install a few more pews where you preach so that they can be shaped by the buttocks of people like me, who are better known as The Converted. But thanks for the UE tips rec; I hadn't tried those (if you mean the gray ones that came with my hoary TF10s) but might do so should the use and effects you've described apply similarly to the different mystery sig of the RE-00.
"And to emphasize what has been, this earphone probably isn't for bass lovers who must have +8-12dB bass boost relative to the rest of the audio band."
I'm not certain that aptr91 understands you're agreeing with me here.
You sound as though you've been on Head-fi for ages (in my case, it's been about twelve years). What's your user name, if you don't mind my arsking?

VarholiaglimpOh hah, I'd not even read your comment until now, but when I said it's hard to trust others, I was referring to those who called the original RE-0's bass light, not you.

aptr91It's disturbingly easy for us to assume that someone's post *must* be referring to ours, isn't it?
