Hi all! I wanted to leave you with my thoughts on these IEMs so here it goes:
Hahaa I lied - first a bit of backstory! My previous IEMs were the Xiaomi Piston 3. Why was I using those mediocre IEMs? Coz my Ety ER 4S finaly died after a couple of years of abuse.
Now then - onto the RE00s. I bought them as a primary IEMs hoping to like them as I didn't want to drop 300 bucks for new ER4s ... Read some stuff, people said these were great - good highs, relatively flat sound etc... I took the plunge!
Packaging: "Ohhh my RE00s arrived! What ... wait ... why is this box so small? Huh ... well that's not encouraging ... Ok what do we got here... Ok the IEMs, 2 sets of plugs (1 double-flange, 1 normal) ... Ok where's the rest? Where are my foam plugs?! WHERE IS THE POUCH!?" - Disappointing. Well that said - it looks like they were cutting costs like Amy Winehouse cuts herself ... (Too dark? Sorry ...).
Fit and Comfort: As ever your mileage may vary. I like them. Normal plugs work great on my ears, double-flange are a bit big for me. Fit is good, noise cancellation is great - not ER 4S teleport to a different universe great but great nonetheless. No ear pain no fatigue from wearing.
Build quality: So far so good. Cable could be better but I do take care of them so no problems there. Housing looks solid although I've seen some dead RE00s thanks to its housing. Again I take good care of them. So far I haven't had any BQ issues.
Sound impressions:
I put them on and listened to Hotel California and Bohemian Rhapsody, listened to The Blue Danube, put some dubstep on, some Metallica, AC/DC, Blue Stahli and Disturbed. Thought to myself: "Huh these are pretty detailed ... nothing too special - very good for the money but nothing more than that".
But then something happened - I let them burn in for ~20 hours...
HOLY SHIT! These IEMs got my faith in humanity back again!
Detail: Again, HOLY SHIT! Almost in the same category with ER4s! No point in comparing them to the Pistons... Detail in the highs is awesome as well as in the lows. Mids though are a little tiny bit muddy. Maybe its me, maybe I'm mistaken but that is maybe the only thing that I would complain about in these IEMs. The sound is sharp, almost harsh, non vailed. I can hear each tiny breath of the artist, hear sounds that do not present on the Pistons - great detail.
Bass: Love it or hate it. If you like Beats or Momentum, you won't like these too much. Bass is tight (not as tight as the ER4s but close), non abundant, almost studio grade (some more sophisticated audiophiles may say I'm wrong and might be right but that's the best opinion I got , sorry). Another way to put it is - I gave these IEMs to my niece and asked her for an opinion. She didn't like them. She likes the included in the Samsung Galaxy line IEMs. That's a big endorsement for the RE00s in my opinion. She said they lack Bass in comparison, are too detailed and a bit harsh for her. My opinion though? Bass is awesome! A bit more then the ER4s which were lacking for a casual listener like me.
Mids: Already said - a bit muddy to my ear, lacking detail compared to the lows and highs. That said - they are miles above any 35$ IEMs but still a bit worse then the ER4s.
Highs: Awesome. Nothing more to add here.
Sound stage: Sorry I'm thorn here. I do like it, although it feels kinda small. Maybe I'm wrong here - take this with a grain of League of Legends (salt). Again I like it.
Can your phone drive them: Absolutely! Don't let the 64 Ohm scare you. Haven't tried amped. My SMSL isn't with me on my new address yet.
Conclusion:
I remember when I had the ER4s and couldn't wait to go to work so I could listen to them for 20 min. Then couldn't wait for work to end to listen to them for another 20 min. When they died (I killed them ... don't call the cops pls) and I got the Pistons, most of the time i forgot to even put them on.
Now after I got these I feel the same way as with the ER4s. I can't wait to put them on.
Sound is detailed, not exaggerated or colored to any extent compared to popular headphones (Beats, Momentums etc.). Not as flat as ER4s but (to my ear at least since I don't have my ER4s to compare them directly, I'm going by memory) close enough. Awesome bass for my taste, good mids (could be a bit more forward and detailed), awesome highs.
Do I recommend them? HELL YEAH! For the money I honestly wouldn't believe you if you told me there is a better IEM on the market. Even at 100$ I don't think there is too much competition if any. Just ... Just look after them please. If you go by the testaments of other people on the drop, you really do have too try and look after them so you don't break them.
