Until MassDrop or Input Club actually support their devices I can't invest in their keyboards. I can't buy the ErgoDox outside of a drop, can't buy individual PCBs, can't buy anything in the event something happens to my keyboard. When my PCB failed, that's it, I'm out of an ErgoDox and have to buy an EZ or buy all the parts for an OG Dox. Now you want to have people invest in an entirely new switch you also won't sell? What happens if a switch dies? I need to hope you cover it (spoilers: they won't past a year) or wait for a random drop so I can buy them?
IC, your boards are great and unique. But stuff happens and I'm out a keyboard because one PCB failed and it is literally impossible to buy it.

elpetersonSo you are saying you're not going to join then?

slykerI hear the sarcasm. But it's a legitimate issue. Any hardware related issues that come from any of their keyboards can't be resolved. Even those these are kit keyboards, none of the parts are ever made available. Would it kill them to add individual options to their drops? I would happily join a drop for the Do Infinity PCB or case.
Say you get this drop and don't join the drop for the Halo switches. What would you do if 3 of your switches died in 6 months? Input Club and MassDrop won't replace the switches and you can't buy Halos anywhere but during a drop.

elpetersonIf some of the important daily usage keyswitches die I can hotswap them with less used keys like the print key to keep a consistency while typing. Then you can patch the then dead print key with some temporary mx brown switches and keep using the board while waiting until the next drop.
But then I ask you what would you do if some of the switches on the typical mechanical keyboard from ducky/corsair/cm/razer etc. dies? Either begin soldering yourself voiding your warranty or send in a RMA. And why dont ever those big named corporations sell their keyboards in parts for you to freely choose? Because it will kill them in costs and logistics. And keeping amounts of spare parts results in inventory costs. They rather trash the RMA Keyboard after inspecting the problem and either refund or give you a new one instead of repairing it.
And what would you say about the Corsair and Cherry exclusive timed monopoly deal on their MX Speed switches? Complain that they won't sell you the switch too?

XenoPinguThe difference between big keyboard companies and the infinity ergodox is the infinity ergodox already comes as a KIT (ie individual components), so realistically it shouldn't be a big deal to be able to sell off extras of those individual components.

CamboBut dont forget that input.club is not a profit oriented company who can earn a stream of money to pay for storage costs and having parts worth several thousand $ laying around waiting for a buyer or warranty case etc. I mean we all think alike that having more options in buying parts and stuff is better and if it is better, companies sure want to earn big money off of our interests, but then there is this hateful person with a calculator who is knowledgeable in economics / production and supply management says: Can't be done, we will make a loss or meet bankruptcy.
