Hello Friends, Every holiday season, we approach our partners and ask if they’d like to do anything special for the Massdrop community. Usually this means more drops for more desirable products at lower prices. This year, we had a great conversation with our long standing partners at Harman (JBL, AKG, etc) with some exciting results. Through their generosity in the form of a reduced cost, we are able to a new drop on the Massdrop x JBL LSR30X of $179.99 shipped to your door in the continental united states. The only downside is that we can only offer this on existing units. Future units will have to be sold at the original drop price of $279.99. So once these sell out, the new units go back to $279.99 because JBL can’t give us this lower cost into perpetuity. Understanding this negatively impacts those who have purchased most recently, Massdrop is refunding the $100 difference to all those who have purchased the LSR30X on or after November 1st 2017. If you purchased the LSR 30X on or after November 1 (in the last 47 days), you’ll receive a $100 partial refund in the days ahead. Thanks for your interest in this product, and thanks to our partners at Harman for making this holiday surprise possible!

Come on MassDrop, I expect better. A week after the item is supposed to ship I get an email that my order is cancelled because the speaker is backordered... $20 credit is nice and all, but you lost me as a customer. I'd rather pay the extra $40 and get a pair of JBL Professional 305P MkII from Amazon in 2 days then deal with your bull again. Thanks but no thanks.

Yeah, ordered those instead. With the discount and no tax total is only $5 or so more so it worked out well I think.

Yeah, I am now trying to decide between those JBL and the Tannoy Reveal 502s. I work on TV/Film stuff and need a decent set of client speakers for my home setup. My office has a pair of Reveal 601A that my clients seem to enjoy but they are a bit dated.

Just got an email that my order was cancelled... $20 credit doesn't make up for it. Massdrop, you lost me as a customer.

So I'm curious, is there some advantage to the Massdrop version? The LSR305 are currently available at Amazon for less than the drop price, the limited edition LSR305 and the new model LSR305p MK II are both available on Amazon for much less than the drop price.

What Amazon are you looking at? Please link because there is nothing out there on the interwebs for this price.

The Amazon Android app. But, as Oica noted in an above reply, those prices were for a single speaker, not a pair. I didn't realize this, as I am not accustomed to seeing powered bookshelf speakers sold individually. Upon this realization, it becomes obvious that the Massdrop price is indeed a bargain.

Anyone know if I'm going to have to set up an active preamp for volume on these or if I'll be fine with passive only? What kind of V input do they take?

FYI, I finally got a chance to look at the numbers. It seems that a passive preamp will probably work fine. I better start rigging one up...

I have a small desk. Are these speakers big? Do you recommend this if you have a small desk with limited space?

These aren't much of a deal in the US anymore. The 306P MK IIs have been as low as ~$150 a pair last Black Friday and are available right now for $179 a pair at B&H. Just search slickdeals.

I've been watching these and comparing them with 305s since before the first drop went live at $300 (roughly the same as the asking price for a pair of unmatched 305s at the time). When the price dropped to $180, miraculously, so did a pair of 305s. The drop price has always been at par with the cost of the individual 305 units bought as a pair. The difference has always been the FR matching on the pair (and the finish).

These are original JBL LSR305s. What I mentioned for the same price ( less on BF ) is a JBL 306 MKII. The MKII has an improved tweeter and has fixed the resonance issues with the originals. The 306 has a 6" driver vs the 5" driver of these. Any benefit from matching these to within 1db is lost when you can get an improved, larger speaker for the same money. These were a great deal for $149 a year ago. Not now for $180.
