Since I live on the west coast I'm always the last to get my fun toys from Massdrop, but these came in on Saturday and so far I'm quite pleased. They replace an old 2.1 Logitech Z-2300 setup I used with my desktop. Currently have them setup with my Schiit Jotenheim on the pre-amp XLR connections and the clarity and resolution of these is just stunning. I still love my HD800's for quiet listening sessions, but the rest of the time I like the good old impact of speakers in my small office. They obviously don't have the punch my old setup had in the bass area but mids and highs are crystal clear and unaccentuated as I'd expect from a studio monitor. I keep the volume on the monitors cranked to max and adjust volume via the knob on my Jot instead. The biggest downside is size- my old speakers fit under my hex monitor mount, but these well.. don't even pretend to be reasonably desk sized.
Still pending the monitor stands, foam isolation pads, and 10" Monoprice 605999 Subwoofer that should be here tomorrow. At the price, I believe these came out exactly the same in the end as I would have paid for normal LSR305's without waiting for holiday deals. The glossy black is super slick looking though time will tell if they are a terrible dust magnet.
No buzzing on them cabled up via the Jot and powered off a separate surge protector from my desktop (even sharing the same circuit as my probably-electrically-noisy portable AC). Not currently using the breakout cable though, as I purchased my own XLR cables to run to the Jot so that's a big difference from others below.
