If I purchase, do I need a DAC too?
Depends on what you are trying to play. The Koss do not have a dac built in. They accept analog signals from numerous components using the RCA line level and 1/8 (3.5mm) "headphone" inputs. Cd players, daps, computers, receivers, and many phones have analog outputs and will play through the Koss without using an outboard dac.
An outboard dac may provide better sound with digital components. Depends on if the outboard dac is better than the one in the component.
@Barondla is correct- this kit has everything you need in the box to start playing music as long as you at least have a source with a 3.5mm TRS headphone-out jack.
There are two cables in the box for connecting to the Energizer. One for a DAC to Energizer (RCA). One for the 3.5mm TRS output to the Energizer (RCA to 3.5mm laptop headphone out or other source). You can get it and try with your existing equipment, then think about a separate DAC later (if needed).
The diagram shows that one cable plugs into the front panel of Energizer and connects to certain sources easily. The other cable connects to the back panel and to other sources easily.
You can also buy an additional cable that is 3.5mm on one side and RCA on the other for use with CD player or DAC and use from the front panel...
All you need is in the box. I my iPhone in via the 3.5mm input on the front if the energizer. I also take the outputb from my LaFigaro 339 Tube headphone amp as input to the energizer and revel in delicious sound.i use my Schitt Modi Multbit DAC with the FF339. Beautiful, lush powerful sound emirates from the 95x stats.
