Of note: KSC75's use titanium coated mylar diaphragms for a brighter profile, while PortaPro's use uncoated mylar diaphragms for a warmer profile with more bass extension. They are otherwise very nearly the same drivers, and can even be interchanged between the KSC clips and the PortaPro headband. Either way, the sound quality is absolutely unbeatable for the price.
My concern: Koss REALLY needs to improve the durability of its cables. This looks like the same thin and super flimsy cable they put on some special edition PortaPros I got a while back that undid itself inside the driver less than 48 hours after I opened them without once yanking or putting any real stress on the cable. It still felt like it was attached, but all sound stopped coming out of one of the drivers. I do not expect these to hold up as well as the standard KSC75's, which also undid themselves inside the driver, but only after 10 months of pretty safe use.
I've been through more than ten sets combined of PortaPros and KSC75's over the last 9 years, all but two of them down to some form of cable failure resulting from light routine use. (The other two were both 25th anniversary edition PortaPros where one of the arms snapped off for no reason (twice) due to the different sparkly black plastic used not working well in the original molds). This probably would have been a higher number of failed sets if I didn't switch to a gaming headset two years ago for use at my computer, and if I had continued to use Koss headphones away from home. I forget how much I've spent on return shipping and Koss's "warranty return processing fees," but I probably spent enough that I could have instead bought a pair of entry level Grados or Sennheiser's higher priced equivalent to the PortaPros - possibly both - and reasonably expected to have gotten more than 5 years out of either of them.
