Oh man, these are dark.
there is a clarity and a quality, but saying they’re warm is definitely an understatement.
I didn’t expect them to be as comfy as they are.
the soundstage is very direct. One of my test songs is Solsbury Hill, and these headphones are very “directly left or right” instead of having the music float in a “stereo” space.
if you like warmer direct soundscapes, these are for you. They look cool to boot.
edit: my wife likes these more than the SHP9500s and the clamp is starting to get a bit uncomfortable after 2 and a half hours.
Would recommend to a friend.
The "warmness" and "darkness" of the sound really depends on the music files being played. If it's music that is bass heavy or the low end emphasized, then these sound quite dark, often too much. If the recording is rather neutral or "flat" without much low end baked into the mastering, then these headphones add some needed low end to the sound.
I find the Porta Pros sound darker with with more modern Pop/Rock recordings (or newer remasters of old stuff), but improve older CD's from the eighties and early nineties before they started to master the recordings with more low end bass-boost.
