Which headphones of Drop's currently available?
I have some rewards points to burn but there's no obviously good options on Drop right now for headphones Contenders Ultrasone - maybe? I don't own any Ultrasones, so curious. Looks like garbage travel headphone which could be useful also. Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro. - Maybe? I have the DT 880 Good price point, really uncomfortable headphones but could be interesting to try the upgraded version. E-MU - strong contender but $400 is a bad price point for what it is. Which of the above would you choose and why? Nothing else on Drop is relevant to my interests, because Already own 6xx 820 800 s Ether cx Garbage / Consumer grade Meze 99 - garbage bass canons, hard pass No gaming headphones obviously Sennheiser wireless - no to wireless/bluetooth Hifiman - I have 2 of drop hifimans and they make really bad cheap shit on Drop, hard pass on HE-R7DX Aeon - I own the closed, Drop refuses to address #padgate so no reason to buy open Beyerdynamic 177x - wireless, nope Too similar 8x / 560s...

To my ears, they sound “veiled”...not like my Sennheisers...but there is a thin layer of something covering the sound. Obviously, that happens when one downgrades to lesser headphones. It’s just the brain/ears noticing the reduction in sound quality...no biggie! But if I place them almost off my ears, the sound enters my canals better and they get a bit brighter. 😏
Honestly, I can hear everything I hear on my Beyerdynamic DT880 600 ohm or Audio-Technica ATH-M70x...it’s all there...just not as impressive, sparkly, or 3D. There is no funky sound signature...thankfully! I am surprised that these are analytical not in the audio engineering sense...but in the audio enjoyment sense. That’s so new to me. It’s like they let me get inside the music and hear everything without any fear of harshness. They sound right to my ears. I’m having great fun right now listening fearlessly to my favorite tracks that sound bad on my monitor headphones. 🙂
Are these worth the money? Soundwise, I say yes. They sound good, not great, but this good is 100% good...so...if someone says they sound great, it’s not a lie. They get SUPER loud on my iPhone 8 Plus and do not leave me wanting more...well...a bit more sizzle would make them better. 😃
So yeah... I get why people love these. I TOTALLY understand why folks get giddy and excited about these...I really do. The sound is not amazing...obviously...but they punch above their weight. God bless you all! 😇
PS: They are tiny. Pictures make them look bigger. They even came with a very nice, also tiny carrying pouch.😁
There is something shockingly satisfying about these headphones, despite lacking the impressiveness of more expensive cans. And like you suggested, they really do cruise over flaws in music -- maybe it's lowered expectations from cheaper headphones, or maybe it's that fuzzy "veil" that masks the imperfections, but some songs that just don't feel up to my X2s are perfectly fun on these Koss headphones.
Probably the happiest I've been with a headphone purchase.
" The Porta Pro is more transparent and clear, so in that sense it's a more audiophile-oriented sound. The KPH30i is less so, with a more prominent mid bass and fatter midrange. It's a sweet and non-fatiguing sound, very easy on the ears. "
I don't think I could tolerate something less bright and with more mid bass and fatter midrange than the Porta Pros. I have dignity! =P
