Like below comment said, this is a short lived product. Mine barely last three months. Making this my worst (only) purchase from MassDrop. Oh, they don't response to my warranty or repair email inquiry. So international buyer might want to note this.

yellowdraftAssuming you're not in the US. People in the US can register on Koss site, mail in your PP's with a description of the problem and a check for $9 and where they need to ship them. You will receive a new pair. They are terrible on the phone and through email (though quite nice in person), but if you follow this method you can get them replaced (over and over again and again: no receipt necessary). For international I would see what the Koss site says. I got my first pair of PPs in 1986 and still have a distant cousin of that original pair. I live in a Milwaukee suburb so I just toss the broken PPs in the car and stop into Koss when I'm in the area. I think I've exchanged that original pair at least 6 or 7 times.

OCBobYes, I'm not in the US. I had similar experience with other brand where I got my pairs replaced 3-4 times as well. I need to submit a receipt and image of the broken pairs through their support system. It's a bit complex but understandable since the pairs itself cost more than $300. But they give a full replacement and ship internationally. No extra fee or shipping cost at all. I don't want to name the brand here since my original intention is not to pit, but I understand your good intention, since I will definitely speak up as well over my experience regarding that brand.
Hope Koss can step up their international warranty game. I must admit it was a good portable can but the life span is too short to tolerate. I consider myself quite a light user though. Do you own this particular model? If yes, may I know how long yours last before you need to replace one?

yellowdraftI have 2 pair of the Porta Pros X that are both 4 months old. One pair I use at home on occasion, but the other pair is kept at work and worn 7-8 hours a day. During that time, the headphones are taken off and put back on many times. I haven't had any issues yet (though I have snagged the cable a couple of times... luckily I never damaged my Magni either). The ones I've replaced over the years were the classic PP's, and the typical issue was a pulled cable or a crack to one of the tangs that holds the driver assembly to the headband (where they swivel). I do remember one pair failing where the cable exited the plug, and I'd say that was the only failure due to wear that I've experienced. It has probably been about 5 or 6 years since I've had to do a replacement of my classics (though I do regularly replace the ear cushions).
It is a shame that the warranty isn't benefiting you, because if you live in the US or Canada it is quite easy to take advantage of. If I have an issue with my $40 PortaPros, $100 pair of Pro4s' or my $1000 pair of ESP-950's the warranty procedure is exactly the same.
I promise to report back should I have an issue with my PPX's. It's always a pleasure and an honor to chat with people from around the world who share in my passions and interests!

yellowdraftThings break. Especially $34.99 things. That said, I as well as at least 4-5 family members and friends have owned Porta Pros for like 5, 6, 7 years+ now (well worn, too) and none have broken.
Obviously this is not to say Massdrop being unresponsive far as your warranty goes is acceptable, I'm just saying that if 2-5 pairs out of the like 2.5k sold break after x or y amount of time that's hardly abnormal or mind blowing. You didn't even explain how yours broke (did they go mono, did the plastic physically break, what) but they're 30 bucks and have non-removable cabling, things can happen.

OCBobThank you for getting back to me. Yours are both last longer than mine already, so perhaps like @Vigrith said, rephrased, I was 'lucky' and scored the one bad pair out of 2.5k good one. Maybe I should use the luck and join the MassDrop IEM Blue Box raffle :) I think the warranty are supposedly to cover these not-so-lucky buyer, no? Irregardless where they live? It seems that they have commendable response for the local warranty, but not international. At least from my experience. I'll definitely update my post if I hear from them.
My pairs have several issues, from the hiss sound over mic, pad loosening, and lastly the left speaker snapped out of the structure, all over three months. Yes, I don't expect much for thirty bucks, but I don't expect it to last for three months only as well. If it does last for at least one year, I won't even bother to request for repair or replacement, and proceed to purchase another pair instead.
You know how these days people tend to brag the latest release. But I'd rather tell the tale of old and long-last item, like what you guys did with the Koss pairs. Not IEMS, but I own a 27-years working fridge and fans. I hope to see the same with my mech keebs, cooking appliance, and other stuff. Which is why I find MD as a great platform because they don't only encourage people to purchase but to know more about what they buy. I don't own any Koss before but I learn before I made my purchase that they are a great company which practice against "Planned Obsolescence" which explains their warranty policy. So let me just quote Koss Jr to conclude my rant :) Cheers!

JaxLIn my experience: no. However, I have registered my ESP 950's since they cost a bundle and I want to have a hassle free experience should I need warranty service. If you save your invoices, or nowadays, are able to access and print an invoice from your Massdrop, Amazon, or whatever account, you'll have the proof of purchase you need and you can include a copy when you send in your Koss' for repair/replacement.
