Correct me if I am wrong, but the left handed version is just the right handed version with a clip on the left carry side right?

DBSSWell, I asked them the same question, lets see what they say. But, yeah, I think you're right. At least, according to the pictures. Because all the "lefty" version pictures shows is that the clip is on the show side, which you can get with any clip reversible knife. Every left-handed framelock knife I've seen changes the lockbar to the opposite side.

DBSSYep. Jonas clarified elsewhere in the comments here. This is simply a left handed carry but not a fully left handed knife.

Bknguyen@DBSS The ad copy crowing about how "there's even a lefty version" and the @JonasHeineman comment "This knife also represents a new first for our knife collaborations: a dedicated version made for left-hand carry, developed based on member comments in past drops." feels a bit slimey, honestly. I stated in another comment how this feels more like a "solution" to a problem that Massdrop created in the first place. I mean, I could be completely wrong, but the layout of the knife appears as if it could support a reversible clip. Charging $5 to have the clip be attachable to the show side, and then sprinkling comments like "there's even a lefty version", feels like they're going after people that don't look too closely. Plus the fact that the other Massdrop collaborations with FFKW include a reversible clip (outside of the milled pattern Falcon).

YabosMcGeeYes, it could support a reversible clip...but the show side is pretty clean and extra holes would detract from that core aesthetic element. As opposed to a knife with a reversible clip, which has extra holes on the show side that 90%+ of buyers don't use, these models only have holes for clip mounting on a single side. As to the $5 difference in price, there is an additional degree of complexity in making additional versions in this configuration, especially in small quantities. Nothing deceptive going on here, sorry if you feel that way. Hope this addresses your concerns.

YabosMcGeeSwitching sides of the lockbar also requires lefty version of blades to be milled for the lock bar ramp. I have a LH DPX hest and, tbh, would rather the right lock bar because I'm used to it.

jhonisI'm left-handed but I actually like the lockbar in the RH configuration. Of course, I haven't gotten to try a real left-handed frame lock knife, so who knows. My point here was that Massdrop is usually straightforward with their ad copy on their collaborations (within reason, they're still trying to sell stuff). But, making a big deal out of this knife having a "left-handed configuration" feels like marketing wank to me. Wow, they put screw holes on the other side. I mean, shit, you can still put the right-handed version in your left pocket. From every search I've done, when you designate a frame/liner lock knife as "left-handed" it denotes that the lock bar has been moved to the opposite side.

YabosMcGeeI ambidextrous so i use the knife with left hand as much as right. never had issue with operating right handed folder, especially for framelock flippers

massdrop01Yeah, pretty much every left-handed person is somewhat ambidextrous. I mean, we have to be a little ambidextrous in a right-handed world. I just take issue with how Massdrop is advertising this knife. Specifically, when they claim that this knife has a "left-handed version".
If you advertised a frame/liner lock knife as left-handed to anyone even remotely familiar with these types of knives, they would expect a mirror of the right-handed version - i.e. the lock bar and detent moved to the opposite side. I don't think anyone would assume they meant "we just moved a pocket clip to the other side". I believe moving the clip to the opposite side counts as "left-hand carry" to most people.

YabosMcGeeThey've made it a "left hand carry" in the options now. But really it's the same as the falcon, crux, and gent but with left carry milling only available on the respective option

BknguyenStill says "there's even a lefty version" and "... you can grab the left-handed version if you prefer" in the description. I honestly am not trying to harp on this thing, but really, the whole thing has left me cold to Massdrop. I know it's not a huge deal, and it's not like there isn't a plethora of hyperbole in marketing elsewhere. But, one of the great things about these Massdrop collaborations has been their willingness to listen to the mob....I mean customers.
The ad copy enthusiastically crowing about there being a "lefty version" (which costs $5 more) is reminiscent of shit you see on products in supermarkets with crap like "30% more!!!". Then you read the small print and it says something like "30% more than our 5oz. version". Here it's "Hey guys, check out this dedicated LEFTY VERSION........(we moved the clip to the other side and it costs 5 dollars more)......Hey! Hey! Look over here! It's DEDICATED to LEFTIES......(we could have made this clip reversible but we needed a way to differentiate this titanium slab knife from our other titanium slab knives, plus it uses the same clip as the Crux/Falcon) *Waves hands in front of everyone's faces* LEFTIES!"

YabosMcGeeReality is that lefty specific options for any product, not just knives carry additional costs associated, specifically retooling machines to accomodate the options. Secondly for lefty-specific options, in general, there is less demand so there is less volume made which means cost per piece is higher. Thirdly, left-handed product stays on shelves longer. So prices are increased to recover cost faster than right handed models. I understand you are dissatisfied with simply a flipped clip. Its better than nothing. I'm i'm willing to support the company that supports left handed options.
