I give in - Lovely, Comfortable, Soothing Headphones
I went on a rant after receiving these - convinced that the ear cups were (are?) some sort of faux-wood plastic. Drop insisted it's a unique finish that makes the walnut seem this way. But, it's irrelevant... Whether the cups are plastic or wood, these cans are fun to listen to and I'm keeping them. They're amazingly comfortable (no head-squeezing clamp like my Senn 58x's), and the sound is, well, simply pleasing. Overall, these lack some detail and often sound veiled with a bass gauze - but all of a sudden, detailed imaging and tight detail will shine through in a way that surprises and makes me smile. Update #2: Drop sent me another pair of the Noirs. The finish on them is exactly the same as mine, so I'm humbled both by probably being wrong about the plastic cups, and secondly, because Drop really shines with this kind of customer service. Will be sending back the second pair today, and hope this review shows them how grateful I am. p.s. These headphones seem happier with the simple dongle dac for iPhone rather than my iFi hipdac.

You have to be joking! The ear cups are made out of wood. Walnut to be exact!

I know, I know. That's what Drop told me as well. But, I'm not joking, because I am sure that these are some sort of very hard plastic (there is absolutely no veining or ping of wood on my set's cups, and partner said "plastic" as well.) However, I updated my review. The issue of cup material is not as relevant because I like the headphones and am keeping them. And because I'm keeping them, I will venture a scratch into the material to see if I'm wrong. If I am, I will update the review again.
