Good build, sound was noisy
Great build quality, however there was a constant hissing noise in the background- apparent when listening to slow tracks with spots of silence

coffeeshopcoderHissing is not produced by headphones. Headphones amplify sound but don't produce any sound on their own. You may get microphonics from a cable, or hardware buzzing/creaking on cheaper headphones, or crackling from a blown driver at very high volumes. But none of those issues would produce hissing on low music passages. The hissing must be coming from your amp or phone. The Meze are fairly sensitive at 103db and 32 Ohm. Perhaps you have not noticed the hiss before because you were using less sensitive headphones or listening at lower volumes?

DeepSpaceusInteresting- I admit I’m no audiophile, but the sensitivity or cable might be the case. I have a simple setup -
  1. laptop with my portable CEntrance Dac/amp .
  2. directly on my iPhone -XR with a lightning to 3.5mm cable.
my reference point was just two other headphones - the massdrop x HiFiMan HE4xx, and an old Bose OE2. Both of them had no hissing noise. Only the setup is same, they all use different cables. The HE4xx might be similarly sensitive, but no issues. oddly, I could almost hear a “lag”- like if I pause a track, the hissing lasts a fraction of a second after the music stops before the headphone goes silent.

coffeeshopcoderThe HE 4XX has a sensitivity of 93 db and that is much less sensitive than the Meze. Unfortunately, I don't have either of the sources you are using, but you could Google to see if others have experienced your issue. Sometimes electrical interference can mess with phones and dac/amps, and USB is notoriously "dirty". Ah, first world problems 😊
