Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Sculpted-profile The majority of custom keycap sets are sculpted-profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT, etc. - more on profiles generally here) so let’s start there. Because each row has a unique keycap shape, alt layouts require a unique keycap for each legend that moves off its QWERTY row. IMO, double shot might not have been the way to go on this as a dye sub legend might have been better on a transparent keycap. Is there a plan to have double shot transparent legend GMK Laser keycaps in the future?
We didn't want legends to stand out, we wanted to offer something where the user could clearly see the weird injection imperfections and internal structure of the second shot. This follows the cyberpunk aesthetic and futuristic style of degrading artificial intelligence.
> I think Laser Dawn should have had purple legends to contrast better how the purple cap has pink legends.
The pink shell becomes completely purple upon receiving the purple legend as you can see below. I didn't enjoy the final result because contrast was non existent and as a consequence this option was trashed.
> Are there any photos (or are these all renders) of the WASD and Enter keys? Is there a picture showing how these look with a GMK Laser keycap set instead of next to some box standard white shine through keycaps?
The keycap set was not yet manufactured, there are no pictures of it yet let alone with this novelty kit.

I'm not entirely sure how familiar you are with manufacturing techniques, but it is only possible to dye sub legends in PBT material and said material does not exist in transparent color. Doubleshot was indeed the way to go because we wanted to resemble the endo-skeleton of a cyborg inside a shell made of synthetic flesh. There is no better way to deliver this vision other than the route we followed.

No there aren't. Making solid color keycaps with readable translucent legends isn't possible without reworking the typeface as you can see in the picture below. It looks very bad with backlit turned both ON and OFF and also doesn't reflect the cyberpunk aesthetic we envisioned for the project.
Hope you understand, thanks a lot for the support on the original group buy, enthusiasm and feedback

I can understand the aesthetic of the keycap itself, and I think by itself and non-backlit, it looks the part for sure. Even in ambient light and backlit it looks good alright. It's too bad there isn't a manufacturing process right now that could really make it work in complete darkness to make the legend pop out.
