Hey everyone, there seems to be some concerns noted by consumers who may first be entering the MK hobby.
My keycaps are shorter than my keycap set, I thought they were compatible?
I looked through the Overview and Specs section and noticed that Massdrop did not specify which profile these keycaps were. It only states that they are "Compatible with Cherry MX switches and clones". This is an error on MD's part. An experienced consumer in the hobby would automatically assume that these are GMK profile, but someone just entering the hobby would not know the difference or even to look. If you would like to request a refund please contact Massdrop's support or consider reselling your kits on /r/mechmarket. Although this set was intended to be purchased as a compliment to GMK Laser, it will also work with other GMK keycap sets.

My keycaps are damaged and they are not as depicted from the renders, what gives?
The renders give an idea of what they will look like. The keycaps are correct by manufacturing process. You can say they fit into the Cyberpunk theme which MiTo has envisioned.
My keycaps are lighter/darker than pictured, why?
The shade of the color will depend on your lighting conditions. I did notice that the Dusk set was significantly lighter than MD's sample pictures and was unable to reproduce the exact colors as depicted even with professional equipment. Perhaps MD can comment on this.
@MiTo I understand that you are proud of your 'baby' and you would feel attacked by some of the other users. You should be careful with responding in hostility as it can only harm your credibility. The simple Q&A/FAQ you posted is enough to clear things up while remaining professional.
That said, will you re-release it with the next round? I'm dying for a set.
Sincerely,
Proud Co-Purveyor of MiTo's GMK Laser Universe
(I own: Blocknet, Cyberdeck, Gaijin, Mitowaves, & Spacebars, as well as the Laser ALT. Heck damn, I even have the Laser Deskpad n Laser-themed cables ready.) So, as you see, I still need to complete my rad life with Anything and Everything Else Laser!)
Wow. Absolutely just wow. Normally I would not want to complain, but this is pretty bad. Border line unacceptable. I was looking to get Dusk, the purple keys. And nope. I mean, kinda, but the inner injection is freaking dawn and the pink shines right through over powering the purple. It is absolutely atrocious. Looks like a muddy pink color. And honestly... it looks nothing like the picture. Sure, if I use a flash on my camera I get similar, not quite perfect shots of it, but I was expecting defined purple keys with the printed pink on top. Not pink injected into the purple key..
If i can I will take no flash pictures outside when it stops raining. Had I bought the full keyboard of this, it would be an immediate return, as they look nothing like as pictured, color wise. It is disappointing to say the least. And I am not one who likes being patient after having been patient for a drop that has taken six months to come to fruition. Mito/Massdrop get your act together. This is a sad day and I am glad I don't have any more orders out that I am expecting. I will probably keep it that way for some time.
It is with a heavy heart that I had to write this, but I believe you and the end consumers will agree. When changes are going on mid way through the production, we absolutely deserve REAL progress pics of the final end product, as to not be deceived with what we will end up receiving.
If massdrop wants to reach out to me, I am all ears, but in no way do I feel I need to be the one reaching out to get this corrected, nor should I have to. Good luck massdrop.
This isn't MiTo's fault... He's just a designer, he doesn't manufacture them. And his designs are great.
Also, you said " I was expecting defined purple keys with the printed pink on top. Not pink injected into the purple key. " so I'm not sure you know what doubleshot actually is if you understood that they were doubleshot...
BlueCrownedYeah....
I was over it after my first rant/post. However.... Mito's response was enough to let me know, no thank you on future endeavors. So sue me, I used the wrong terminology. It doesn't make my complaint any less valid. The caps are solid caps. The purple hue is just not excusable. Not even close to the original photos shown. I understood they were doubleshot, I mispoke when trying to describe how clean the concept photos were. It looked like a purple translucent shell with pink design on top, almost like it was printed, but the doubleshot filling the inside ruined the translucent effect of the concept.
That said, I am keeping the caps, not selling them. They are fine for my purposes... So long as I use a black light on them and give them an orange hue. Honestly though, that was the worst response I have ever read from someone who I ultimately bought a product from. Maybe they took it personally, maybe I came off harsh. But having worked retail for many years in my past.... you don't ridicule and/or belittle your paying customer.
Best experiences I have had have all come from artisan makers, Keyforge, ETF, CozCaps and hell... even Jelly Key fits that list. If anything was ever wrong, I talk to them, they either walk me through what to be to make it work or ask to send it back and they correct the situation. Mito, I am sure is well intention, but the response was disappointing to say the least.
Mine arrived today, they look okay but the lower layer looks fused as opposed to the nice grid shown in the pictures. This really bothers me as after waiting months for these keycaps I was expecting that time to go to use insuring they were made to the standard expected in the picture, not fused.

I'm honestly disappointed because expectations were so high for these and they were so close to being amazing and just didn't quite get there. It's just sloppy.
@MiTo any chance of getting the final numbers? I was under the impression they were gonna fix the prices when stuff like this happens. Dawn was 4 units away from a price drop 2 DAYS before the drop ended and before any proxy orders. i find it hard to believe there weren’t at least 4 more dawn kits sold of the 200 or so orders that happened after.
Amnesia1187They will for sure made the numbers available, I already requested the team to look into this and I don’t know why it hasn‘t been updated yet.
We really need an update for these numbers...
Yeah and it would encourage more to join and bring the price down. Real bummer that Dawn was only 4 away from the next tier. I would think this can be programmed into the system quite easily rather than having to manually update a spreadsheet.
KunoWould be nice if they bought those remaining 5 and passed the savings on to us. Guess we'll see 5 Dusk sets in some overstock sale keycap grab at some point.
This is a render made by the plastic injection engineers that work at the manufacturer plant. The purpose of the renders is to show what keycaps will be included in the kit, not 100% what they would look like.
The very kit which you posted pictures of is exactly what is shown in the render you posted above, other than the fact that no computer can possibly predict the melting pattern seen on a grid or the W keycap for example.
Besides, on the actual drop page, during the group buy period, you could see actual pictures (not renders) of the final product (see below). You can clearly see a grid with imperfections there, it’s all bent and molten. Obviously the same thing would happen to the other keycaps. Maybe you didn’t pay attention.
Just a quick update for the participants, even though the price sheet wasn't updated for the last few days of the drop, Dawn kits achieved the next drop point so every participant will receive an actual refund for discount.
Numbers are going to be manually updated soon, I'm sorry about this inconvenience. Here's hoping that Massdrop automates this functionality for the near future, for it will save everyone a bit of a headache and of course, money too. It's a shame because people on the fence remain a bit in the dark and it's hard to join a drop by simply guessing prices and "what if" discounts.
Unfortunately I don't have control over this system, I hope you guys understand.
As always, thank you very much for all the support and enthusiasm, I hope you're excited for what's coming soon and the upcoming Laser items!
This is not how they meet MOQ. They have only done that when the kit hasn't gotten enough orders to be made in the first place, not to push an option to the next price point. It's just not how MD works.
