BrainFlushBecause there is nothing artisan or special about these caps. They are created with cheap plastic using normal techniques. Gold plated zinc on OEM profile... No, I won't. You called my bluff. Guess I'll just keep creeping /r/mk until some effort is put into mech keys again. It will happen! There will be another drop of the quality that the Ninja Turtle caps were, someday.
Maybe League of Legends will do some keys that could easily destroy the quality of these. Seems fitting that League of Legends could put in a minimal amount of effort into a product to compete with DoTA and because DoTA's quality is so low, League of Legends would win by default.

Thanks for the feedback. I personally think these are pretty special given Massdrop was able to partner with an indy production studio late in the game and get keycaps that wouldn't otherwise exist out and available to fans.
That said... I agree, with more time (and a higher cost...) Massdrop could do so much more. I LOVE the idea of a true artisan Mr. Midas. Or a deeper partnership with Dota or LoL.
If you are looking for awesome, innovative work being put into keycaps or keyboards check out Laser, MT3, Hall Effect, K type, Community keycap design contest, or that new Gundam x Hidden Lab partnership (holy crap!). If you (or anyone else) have other ideas around keycap innovation I'd love to hear them, too (brad.ross@massdrop.com)!

bradrWould it be uncouth of me to recommend a hybrid stereo-lithographic weekly artist's special cap? Stereo litho for the base so you get a solid print with no holes or bubbles and print a metric ****ton of them for cheap if printed in a waffle pattern. And a new design every week/month from a new artist on top of that? Could fill the top half with a resin over the art to fill the top half of the key mold or whatever the artist decides. Would make for some uber collectibles and could potentially boost MD's appeal for new audiences depending on the artist involved.

I'm not an expert in the ins and outs of manufacturing and whats possible there, but I'll definitely bring it to the team and get their thoughts on both an artist program and stereolithographic printing specifically.

smallbitI think part of the backlash you're getting is because you said these are "1 dollar caps". These are dyesub PBT novelties. Are there really many dyesub novelties out there? And, if so, are they really only 1 dollar? While I do agree that there can be some low quality/high priced items on MD, you lost all credibility by claiming that Dota is lower quality than LoL. You're low quality.

And yes dye sub OEM profile caps are pretty much everywhere. That is why the start of this thread called them ali express caps. Because these are the quality you would find on ali express right now for super cheap. Catch up dude.
Also, no need to insult and bully people. We are just talking about products on the internet here. And I am just being a consumer advocate. Interesting to see so many people offended by someone demanding better quality items. I am not saying that your quick remark and subsequent insult without reading through what I wrote implies you are just a troll... Oh yes I am. :P Cheer up dude! We are all low quality. Some of us maybe a bit more than others. Not saying that you choosing to be a random SJW late in the conversation of a mech key thread makes you better or worse ... Shark50521I play Overwatch and Witcher way too much to have room for any other games. haha :) I tried LoL and DoTA but didn't get into either. SMITE was pretty cool though. All of which has nothing to do with how crappy these caps are lol.

smallbitpeople get so salty :D its like they cant handle the slightest bit of criticism for something that barely affects them. I bought the caps because I like the tournament they represent and they are pretty cheap still but I can completely see where you are coming from.
