They are unwashed in the fabrication process, leaving the fabric in a raw state. It is 100% cotton, but over time, will stretch in the seat and at the knees.

I haven't noticed any stretching. I have them for a few years already. They are beginning to fade nicely. I wear them about once a week.

There is a lot of argument online. Pick a method and follow instructions on YouTube. I’ve seen everything from wearing them into an ocean to soaking them in a tub for a day to just chucking them in the washing machine.

it takes a while to “break in” raw denim. If you don’t like how rigid the fabric is, you can soak them inside-out with detergent. This kicks out some indigo dye but will also soften the fabric.
