I wonder if the previous reviewers all knew that selvage denim doesn't do vanity sizes. I thought I was a 36 but watched a video online about selvage and it prompted me to measure myself. I did pick the biggest size available. I also knew that the legs are going to be super long. That part stops me from wearing these everyday. Being a 30 inch inseam the rolls I have to make are massive. I expected to get them tailored. I haven't done this yet.
The material is supernatural. Anyone can tell these are some kind of special. They seem to be brighter than other objects in the room. They don't quite sparkle with denim magic causing pretty women to talk to you in public (direct sunlight is required for that), but they do stand out enough that another denim nerd will probably give you a DiCaprio nod/toast from across the room or at least a knowing "in-the-club" nod.
Since then denim is so strong these would be great manual work pants, but I won't use them for that. These are probably the pants farmers and cowboys deserve not me. I feel like these will last me the rest of my life either way. I work where you wear dress shirts and jeans but I fix my own cars. I am concerned the logo is NOT HR appropriate but if I ever get to a situation where I'm around someone else, and not wearing my belt (all men should wear a belt, boys are exempt) then I think I'll have some explaining to do to my wife.
The light tan of the logo has absorbed oils from my handwrought saddle leather belt giving a neat surprise wear marks on the upper 3/4 of the logo.
I knew the Weird Guy cut was NOT going to be the "relaxed fit" baggy Levi jeans many people wear from normal retail. I found this out by YouTube videos from the maker. They basically seem to specialize is skinny jeans. All the other cuts are not acceptable for men of my build. martial artist thighs, mountain bike calves foody gut.
I would love to see the stretch Kung Fu themed ones on sale.

darkpanaceaDude, a word of advice, as I can wish I had known at first ( sorry if you do know), but make sure you soak/wash first, before hemming the legs. They WILL shrink at least an inch on the length, so waiting is kinda mandatory. I have a pair of raw denim capris because of this... 😬

I love these jeans. When they first come they're stiff, but consider it a starting point that needs to be broken into your body. The heavier fabric takes some getting used to for those of us used to department store jeans, but now that they're broken in, they're the most comfortable jeans I've ever worn.
Surprised there's so much comment on the sizing. I read the instructions and measured jeans I had with a comfortable waste, using the size based on that (different than my dept store jean size). As was described, when these came they were a little tight, but within a few days they had broken in to the point where the waste was comfortable, and within a couple weeks the waste was every bit as comfortable as the jeans I originally measured.

SmeagelThank you for your comment, I had the same experience. Clearly there are some of us who can follow directions, lol.

This is my first pair of selvage denim. Thank you Massdrop and Naked & Famous for bringing this together. I ordered them on Jun. 2017 and they arrived on Oct. I ordered one size larger than my regular Levi's Jeans so they can "shrink and fit." I stepped into my shower wearing them, came out wet and let them dry. "Wow, these are the nicest jeans I've ever wore." I thought. Now, 16 months after, I'm here to write a review. As an entry level selvage denim, I think this is good. Compare to offers from Unbranded Brand, the difference is small. UB has hidden rivets, heavier fabric, and are made in Macau, while M x N&F has branded buttons, Japanese fabric, and is made in Canada. At the time of purchase, M x N&F wasUSD100, and UB was USD82 on Amazon. During the 16 month, I washed them ~5 times, and tumble-dried them ~5+3 times. I wore them nearly every day for about a year and once or twice a week for the recent months. I think they are beautiful and still love them, but I've noticed the inseams of the thighs are wearing out and it shows my skin. I decided I have to move on. I bought a pair of jeans from Momotaro. The difference in quality and detail, like their price, are significant. So thank you Massdrop and Naked & Famous for not only deliver this great product, but also guide me into this hobby.

PencilAndRulerPants are a hobby?

HearstYeah, kinda. Edit: Sorry for the brief reply. Let me explain further. For me, jeans themselves are not a hobby, but the whole experience around them is. Unlike regular jeans, raw denims need some (or a lot of) care in order to get the characteristic fade. The whole experience starts from selecting a pair of jeans, wearing them, taking care of them (properly), to enjoying the ever-changing fade and color. So jeans are not a hobby, but all things mentioned above make wearing raw denims a enjoyable experience.

14 months on from the first drop and these are still the best jeans I've owned. Washed them after about a year. The fades look great and the colour came out really well. Most of my jeans have been a slimmer fit but these have been great to fit over my work boots. I would like a chance to buy some slimmer N&F jeans too. Highly recommended these though.

Size 36. I am 6’3” tall, 205 lbs, 34” inseam in most pants, 36 waist size in most pants. I purchased size 36 which was correct for me. As many have noted N&F make a good basic pair of denim jeans that are marginally better crafted than Levi’s 501 Shrink to Fit rigid. Pros: -Shuttle loom indigo dyed selvedge denim. Marginally more durable than other denim, in part due to the weight of the fabric, rather than the method of making the fabric. -Indigo dye: at least 50% natural indigo based on Japanese standards. Indigo is naturally antimicrobial which is nice in clothing. Also it is not a petroleum based dye like some very large jeans companies use. -Weird guy cut is within millimeters of the same cut as same waist size 501 Shrink-to-Fits after first soak on most dimensions. Biggest difference is a lower front rise. The N&F front rise is at least an inch less than Levi’s 501 S-t-F. I prefer a little more rise. -Pocket bags are a nice twill/denim. -Inseam is finished with a stronger seam than mass produced jeans. I would use these for saddle time before Wranglers or Levi’s. Ironic for a “fashion jean”. Cons: -N&F’s Indigo color is unusual and not as deep as I prefer. -The inseam length is at least 1/2 inch too short for me after a first soak in cold water. Mine shrank from 34.5“ inseam to 33.5“ inseam. I wear 34”+ inseam. I have to actively stretch these jeans while wet to make them long enough. I will not buy another pair at 34.5” inseam. They should make longer inseams for the larger sizes. Why N&F are not $200 jeans: -Details: 1. Belt loops are tacked on, but not sewn into waistband with the effort of a 3sixteen, or other $200+ brand. 2. No second belt loop center back. 3. Leather patch is fully perimeter sewn and not “premium”. 4. Relatively short inseam. 5. Unflattering rear pockets. 6. Nothing Special about rivets, buttons, etc. If these jeans were available in 35”+ inseam I would own multiple pairs at the Massdrop $99.00 price, Update: after a few cold water wash, hang dry cycles, these jeans are too short to be worn.

Seams and stitching were awful, started falling apart after just a few wears. Quality control is awful.

The material and construction seem solid, but the quality control around the fit of the jeans is poor, which makes these a bad fit for a company like Massdrop.
I ordered Size 33s based on the size chart, which said the waist would be 35 inches. The pair I recieved had a waist that was almost 0.75 inches too large (see photo below).
This resulted in these jeans either bunching severely when I belted them up or basically falling off of me if I don’t use a belt, since my actual waist is about 34.5 inches.
I contacted Massdrop and they wold not do a refund or exchange on my pants since the sizing delta between promised and actual size is not enough to be considered defective by them.
So buyer beware with these jeans, or clothing drops in general. The measuresments can be substantially off and you have no recourse.

ArjanHey Arjan! Have you washed them yet? Some reviewes claim they will shrink with wash, ca 1" on the inseam.. I assume less in the waist.. I have similar meassurements, measured myself to 34,5" although I have been a (31 a few years back) 32 basically my whole life. I am really unsure if I should go for the 32 or the 33...

Just got these hemmed down to 29 length and the foot cuffs are about 7.5inches. If youre looking for more tapered look below or around 7inch then I wont recommend these jeans since its more like a slim straight with a tighter crouch. If you hemm lower than 29 you run the risk of making the jeans look flared out if you have shortlegs like me. The natural leather patch is very ugly so I had to

dye it to look more original color. The colors of the indigo is beautiful and feels comfy after 2 days of wear.

Massdrop, you have to improve the way these international orders are declared for duty & taxes. These denims were manufactured in Montreal QC, Canada. I received this item in Revelstoke BC, Canada and had to pay $25.82 on a declared value of $132.29. Thus, I paid a total of $158.11 CAN for these, negating any value I might have derived ordering from this drop.
Good quality denim, well made, nice product.

The fit was much smaller than the listed size. I have been wearing Levis's in this size for years. No recourse or swap makes the purchase of clothing prohibitive in the future.
