Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

But it gets better, much better. I hadn't paid too much attention to the tip selection. I started off immediately with some spiral dots and only put some original silicone ones on for a short while, while coming to the conclusion there wasn't that much of a difference between them, only the spiral dots would stay a bit better seated. So 2 days ago I thought, lets put on some different tips. First I tried the double flangs from the P1, well that wasn't a success, the sound was too thin. The P1's triple flangs were a no go either, because with the bigger nozzles, I couldn't get them on the Noble X. So I decided to try out the normal P1's silicone tips, and what a surprise that was. Apparently the smaller bore + the deeper fit do these IEMs wonders, well at least with the AK70 (your results may vary with different sources).
I will try to describe what changed with the P1's normal silicone tips. The Noble X opened up in the highs and the veil was lifted. The highest highs have become more neutral (less subdued). The mids gained more detail and clarity (they are now in between with how the Noble X sounds with the original silicone tips/spiral dots and the P1). The mids are still more full bodied as the P1. I don't know exactly if the mids took a slight step back or not, it seems a little bit, because it all now sounds a bit more away with the less shallow fit of the nozzle into the tips (the overall sound pushes now more off to a bigger Can sound (like having speakers at about 4 meters away instead of just 2 meters)). The harshness of the sound has also reduced to a more pleasant level (at least for me). I personally still like some harshness, and some body to the mids, to keep a sound slightly dirty, too clean/sterile and music loses its character to me. Now with the normal P1's silicone tips instead of the spiral dots, it all sounds just right to me with my combo with the AK70, still enough body to the mids, some harshness but not too much, and the right amount of detail. The bass is another thing which changed, it has become more punchy, so it has more slam. It also has taken a slightly step back in the amount, but really only a very tiny bit. Occasionally with the AK70 (which isn't completely neutral) there were some moments I thought it was a bit too much with the spiral dot tips, but with the P1 tips not any more. The Noble X with the P1 tips is still way above the P1's with spiral dots in bass amount (which is more as with the original tips). I actually find most of the time the changed more punchy bass more enjoyable as the presentation of the original sounding bass.
If you want to try it, the P1's silicone tips have a much smaller bore and the Noble X nozzle is more deeper seated in the tips (way less shallow), so you could see if you still have tips with the same characteristics, or MEE audio sells them separately. However because of the smaller bore of the tips and the much bigger nozzles of the Noble X, they won't go on easily (it took me 5 minutes to get the first one on, but luckily the second one went a bit quicker). You should also fold the outer layer of the tips first completely inside out before trying (with silicone tips you won't damage them if you're careful enough) to get them on, because without it will be too difficult.
In combination with the AK70 my Noble X's went all of sudden from ok'ish to near perfect with the different tips. I put them on and didn't stop listening for 5.5 hours straight after it, and the next few times my enjoyment wasn't any less. With different sources, ear canals, and sound preferences, results may vary among you, but it's an "easy" (if you can get it on the nozzles quickly enough) and cheap tweak to try out.
It's a bit strange with the P1 tips on the Noble X, at my smallest ear canal I actually use the largest tip and it stays seated. Both the small and the middle ones slowly push outwards. I have never been able to use large tips in either of my ears without them staying seated (always medium).
