How will this sound vs the Nuforce EDC3? There's a very stark price difference since the EDC3 is just 99USD, while this is 399USD. Furthermore, the EDC3 has 3 BAs per ear while this one has 2. The price is so high for this one cause of its limited release? Or is the sound worth the tag?
Dbh.zhengI believe edc is made in asia, while noble is made in the states. The country of origin makes a huuuuge difference in price. Also, I can see how the custom design could affect the price as well. Its pretty hard to compare them by number of armatures. the sound Varies by frequency assignment.
Im not surprised that noble is significantly more expensive, but I’d like to know the sound comparison too
Dbh.zhengThe amount of armatures have less to do about sound vs. their tuning and crossovers. The EDC3 is being touted as more balanced/neutral and these like the old Noble X's are more warm sounding. The high cost of these appears to be the materials used to make them as they look like one solid piece with no seams. They're also smaller than the old Noble so ergonomics and seal will likely be improved.

Of course not. HEM6 has way more expensive drivers, higher end braided cable, more sophisticated crossover design, different tuning and more accessories. Driver selection is the main difference though. The HEM6 drivers cost roughly 3 times more to procure. We could never sell HEM6 with $99. Our own manufacturing cost is higher than that. Does the HEM6 have better performance than EDC3? Yes. Is the performance 3x better? That is subjective - as always with high end audio.
However I have to say... To be able to manufacture and sell 3BA driver IEM at $99 is not easy. It took us more than 2 years to find a driver combination which is up to our (and Massdrop´s) standards in terms of reliability, production tolerance as well as sonic performance. With both EDC and EDC3 we promise L+R channel balance within +/-2dB. Not all sub $100 IEMs have similar tolerance control. We had to redesign EDC´s driver production method to be able to deliver this!
Also, we would not be able to sell EDC or EDC3 at $99 without Massdrop.
