Just received the EDC3 and they're fantastic. Very balanced sound, high quality construction. Instrument separation is only OK, but overall for $100 I'm very happy. The biggest disappointment though is the right-angled 1/8" jack. I can't use a 1/4" adapter with the right-angle jack and therefore can't use these headphones on my home system. Anyone know of any 1/4" adapters that would work with this? Might have to buy a new cable with them.

zbellsWouldn't something like this work? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-1-4-to-3-5mm-mini-headphone-jack-adapter-black/4716033.p Definitely better options, just picked the first one off Google.

zbellsHere's a picture of 90 degree jack on NuForce HEM dynamic (very very similar if not identical termination) plugged into 1/4" adapter from the HD6XX.

EDIT: It said "back" for some reason, now it says "jack" as it always should have.

zbellsI agree about the instrument separation. I don't like their imaging. I feel like they are try too hard to create a big soundstage. But the music sometimes almost sounds like out of phase. The vocal is really centered (in your brain), but then the instruments are spread far away. It's super weird. I compared the EDC3 with my HEM8. My HEM8s are warmer, but the soundstage and imaging are way more coherent.

Der_KlaviermannI've yet to hear these, so I can't comment on this aspect of these IEMs, however, I feel like the EDC3 and HEM8 are not really a fair comparison. It was mentioned somewhere in the discussion that the Knowles BA drivers are way more expensive, the crossover is more sophisticated and so on. I realize there probably aren't many BA IEMs at this price point, but I'd still suggest trying to compare these based on price. If you already own the $350-ish HEM8, might I ask what was your intention for the EDC3? No hidden meanings, just honestly curious.

Vojta.pokornyTrue! You're right! It wasn't quite a fair comparison. And there really aren't any multiple BA drivers IEMs I can think of at that price point. The most budget BA IEMs I have is a pair of Etymotic hf3. Personally, I would still prefer hf3s over the EDC3s, because of the weird soundstage / imaging of the EDC3s.
I was looking for a pair of budget BA IEMs for everyday use. That's why I bought them. But I'm planning to sell them, because they don't perfectly fit my liking. Don't get me wrong though! They're fantastic at the price point. It would be hard to find anything to compete against them. Unfortunately, the weird soundstage / imaging really bugs me enough to let them go.

jaydunndidditThanks for this recommendation. Seems like it will be least likely to snap off the 1/8" connected on the EDC3.

Der_KlaviermannSo I just finally received mine and I must say that you have a point @Der_Klaviermann
The vocals are easily the strongest aspect of this IEM, it really feels like the singer is singing inside my brain. I like that the bass is quite tamed, although in some songs especially the bass guitar can still be very strong. Hi-hats and snare drums are really sharp and clear. BUT The background guitars are almost barely noticeable. Even some guitar solos feel far away or out of focus somewhat.
My point of comparison is the NuForce HEM Dynamic, that usually retails at $120, but I got it for about $50 brand new, and as far as I can tell it's the off-the-shelf version of the regular EDC with just a single cable. There the vocals are definitely not as strong, and the high-end is also less sharp, but the bass is quite elevated, not too much for my taste, but still a lot more present than in the EDC3 or my Audio-Technica SR5BT, and although those are on-ear headphones, they are also probably the most neutral sounding pair I've ever owned. I'll hear test it later, but I'd go as far as to say that even the EDC3 don't quite come close (yes I know it's not a fair comparison).
I also tried listening to these off of my MD O2+SDAC, which I immediatelly had to dial almost all the way down or I'd go deaf in seconds, but most of my findings are based on listening off of the Samsung Galaxy A8.
I'm not saying that the imaging is bothering me, I think it's more of a "something to get used to". I will follow up on this after I've had a bit more time with these IEMs.
P.S.: Curiously, probably because Massdrop sent this in a reinforced envelope instead of a parcel, my shipment didn't go through customs, so I didn't need to pay any duty on these. That's a $20. Thanks MD
