Massdrop x Rab Kinetic Jacket

Made for outdoor adventures where the weather could turn on a dime, the Massdrop x Rab Kinetic jacket is waterproof, breathable, and stretchy. It uses Rab’s proprietary Proflex fabric, which comprises a waterproof polyurethane membrane between two high-gauge knitted layers: a water-resistant outer layer and a moisture-wicking inner layer. Soft, comfortable, and formfitting, Proflex offers superior freedom of movement for climbing and other demanding activities. Featuring a streamlined design, the jacket is light and durable enough for thru-hiking with a non-technical look that makes it suitable for daily commutes. It weighs just 9.4 ounces and packs down into its own chest pocket.

Designed for three-season use as a rainproof shell, the Kinetic also makes a great layering piece in the winter months. It has a hydrostatic head of 10,000mm and a breathability rating of 35,000 g/m2/24 hours, so you can stay dry and comfortable whether you’re breaking a sweat or stuck in prolonged rain. The YKK AquaGuard VISLON front zipper zips high to provide coverage above the mouth, while the dual-brim hood fits snugly and has a laminated, stiffened peak to protect against precipitation. Complete with fully taped seams and a hidden zippered chest pocket, the jacket’s design eliminates extra seams and bulk. There’s no stitching in the elastic cuffs that might get caught, no seam on top of the shoulder where a pack’s strap would put pressure, and no low pockets to get in the way of a climbing harness or hip belt.

Rab was founded by Scottish mountaineer Rab Carrington in 1980 Sheffield, England. Drawing from his experience expeditioning in the Alps, the Himalayas, the Andes, and elsewhere, Carrington began making down sleeping bags and clothing for the climbing community. Production started in his attic, and as demand grew, moved to a factory in Sheffield. Since then, the company has expanded its offerings to include a full range of climbing and mountaineering apparel—most notably its rain jackets and down parkas—plus sleeping bags, shelters, gaiters, and gloves.
