I'm not some professional connoisseur of headphones. It would be silly of me to even attempt to act like one. I bought these on a recommendation because I like things that sound good. Having only in the past couple of years taken the step from "I just want to hear" to "I want to hear what it's supposed to sound like," I think this is my biggest push toward high end that I'll make in the foreseeable future.
All of that being said, these sound really good. Better than anything I've had before. The one thing I think anyone can talk about regardless of their expertise is comfort, and that's where these lose a star. The clamp is tight and trying to relax it is taking a long time. Along with that, the 'velour' ear pads squeak on the frames of my glasses and so every head movement is filled with annoyance. I have a pair of HD 518 headphones and over time I've managed to either wear down the earpads enough or just loosen the clamp enough that the squeaking these used to produce is all but gone. So hopefully these otherwise great HD58X work out the same way. I have considered getting new ear pads, but changing to pleather or something similar apparently changes the sound quality, so I'm not eager for that... and I don't even know if it would stop the squeaking.
Overall though, if I had a smaller head and/or no glasses, I probably would have hit that fifth star without hesitation.

EndyoThe high clamp force has been an out of the box issue with the 600 line of sennheisers for a very long time. Fortunately there is a well documented way to fix this very quickly without having to spend many uncomfortable months breaking it in and wearing your earpads out: https://youtu.be/iNxK-NwSR5U Just keep bending and adjusting the metal arms and trying it on your head as you go until you get a comfortable fit for you. You're welcome!
