I've been into headphone audio since about 2007 and I've had a lot of cans and heard a lot more at HeadFi.org meets in Texas. These are an incredible value. I'm not going to go full-headphone-geek with all sorts of obscure and emotionally charged rhetoric. I'll just say the sound is very pleasant, and non-fatiguing (which is a big deal for me) and most importantly, comfortable. I don't care how great a headphone sounds, if I don't want it on my head, the sound is irrelevant. The Sennheiser 5xx/6xx headphones are some of the lightest and most comfortable you'll ever find. And the headband and ear pads are easily replaced and readily available.
I've heard $1000 headphones and if you spend double-digit hours a week listening to headphones, the higher-end cans may be worth the cost. They aren't for me. For anything under $500 these can hold their own and what you get in sound is largely a function of the type of headphone you have. Obviously closed-back dynamic are going to be very different from open-backed dynamic, and planar magnetic are going to have their own benefits. For an open backed dynamic, you really only get side-grades by spending more (up to a point) on other open-backed dynamics. If you want your teeth fillings rattled loose, these won't satisfy...you want a closed-back.
Would recommend to a friend.
