Based on what we’ve seen, are these a better buy than the HiFiMan He4xxs?

dasikmunkyIf you like good treble, probably... but definitely not if you like bass.

dasikmunkythey could possibly be problem is no one knows. honestly i have both the 4xx and 6xx and i prefer the 6xx by just a tiny bit but imo those are more on the playing field at least right now. these could end up being a rock star who knows. but with the hd650 being possibly discontinued imo i would for sure consider a pair of 6xx before those go away also. ill be grabbing a pair of these to play with and see how they do.

QzaniumYep, that's my feeling too. Interesting to see all these Massdrop collabs though...

mastershakeWhy you prefer the 6xx over the 4xx? I got my 6xx recently and I'm thinking on pulling the trigger on the 4xx according to some reviews I read.

Eli35Get them. No reason you can't have both 😀. They are different enough that you'll use them for different type of music / feeling.

bigshelHow different are they? I know the HE4xx are more forward and have some more bass, but what about sub-bass? I miss a bit of sub-bass on the HD6xx, specially coming from closed-back ATH-M50x. Also, what amp do you use for them? I currently own a Hifime Sabre 9018 DAC/Amp as portable/backup source and a D30 DAC & Little Dot I+ amp (w/ Mullard M8161 tubes). Do you think the LD I+ hybrid amp would be a good match for the 4xx? It's meant to best drive low-impedance cans, and I heard it has low output impedance (IDK exactly what impedance, nobody seems to know).

Eli35Sub-bass is really good on the HE4XX. Like most planars, they are vocal forward. I like them for my hip hop, jazz, r&b and the like due the bass and vocal qualities. The 6XX I like with classical and more instrumental music
I use the Topping DX7 to drive them or the iFi iDSD. Both are good.
I don't think you'll have a problem driving them with the setup you have.

bigshelThanks a lot, I think I might press that "join drop" button as soon as the HE4xx are available again (which I hope is soon!).
