Any idea how these might compare to the Grado SR225e? I had been thinking about getting the hd650 or one of the Grado prestige headphones for a few years. I recently signed up for mass drop and saw they had the hd6xx so i ordered it without hesitation. I also ordered an SR225e, since they both seem to be considered the “sweet spot” in value per dollar for both brands. I ordered both in the last week, so I dont actually have them yet. But I read online that the SR225e is brighter than the hd650. Would there be any point in joining the drop for thehd58x. Or would it be too similar to the SR225e. Both brighter, lower impedance (although much lower for the SR225e). I know I don’t be need it but maybe it’s just fear of missing out. Originally my next purchase was going to be a modi2 and Magni 3 valhalla2 or dark voice 336 (im hoping for a drop of one of those).

DavestefI currently own the HD6XX, and owned the SR-225's a few years back. I'd say that with those two sets of cans, you'd be matched for just about all genres of music. That's just my opinion, based on my preferences of music.(Metal, Funk, R&B/Soul, Jazz, Jam Bands, Rap, etc.)
The Grados, to my ears, are fantastic rock headphones. Up front, intense and per the constant reviews bright sounding. But they're great. The HD650/6XX is a great all around can, but shines on jazz, blues and accoustic tracks, IMO.
I can't speak to classical.
My advice would be to get a qualityamp, a decent DAC, good source material and enjoy your music!

Icculus514 cool thanks for the reply. What dac/amp combo did you Use for your set up? I was thinking about the modi 2/ uber and Valhalla 2. I was originally thinking modi/Magni, but I know id eventually end up wanting the Valhalla. Was also looking at the dark voice 336 and the bottle head crack. But from what ive read on the forums they suit the hd650, higher impendance phones and not lower impedance Ones.. the Valhalla supposedly Works well with lower impedance phones too, not exactly sure what the difference between amps is.

DavestefNo worries on the reply. All of the feedback on cans, amps and dacs can get confusing and extremely hyperbolic. Everyone has an opinion and almost no one can agree to allow their opinions to coexist.
For amping, I've used everything from an 80gb iPod to a solid state dedicated headphone amp. The Grados sounded similar on all the solid state amps.
The HD-6XX/650 benefited from better amping, however. The bass was more full/better controlled and the mids and highs were more pronounced. The HD-6XX wasn't as "laid back" as before. In not so many words, it had more balls. Not as much as the Grados, but it was a different can, IMO.
If I was in your situation, and you know that you'll upgrade in a month, regardless if the Modi/Magni combo sounds great to your ears, looking into the Schiit Jotunheim might be wise. I haven't listened to it myself, but I've heard great things as far as synergy with the HD-6XX/650. Again, just what I've read over at SBAF...but they seem trustworthy in my experience.
Myself, I'd start with the Modi/Magni and enjoy the upgrade path. Both will pair well and likely make you quite pleased with your headphone purchases.
As far as tube amps go, I don't have much experience. I've demoed some tube amps, but nothing for extended listening. It sounded different, more liquid(?), but I didn't like the heat generated by the amp and the issue of changing tubes was a bummer.
The Bottle Head is a DIY assembly and I don't have the time to worry about soldering and possible trouble shooting.
Hope that helps, sir.
