So the year is 2017... and I still have the HD580s I purchased in 2000 in perfect working order. They cost me $200 then, so this is a steal for such impressive drivers. They are what really got me started in high end audio headphones - and made me realize you could experience some of the best sound possible with only hundreds of dollars in headphone equipment as opposed to so much more required for loudspeakers. These are an amazing entry point that scales well as other pieces of the chain are upgraded. Additionally, all the failure points (headband pad, ear pads, cable) are readily replaceable (still)! I just replaced all the pads on mine and they are like brand new.
Is it a open back like HD-6XX?
This is nothing like the HD 58x and have completely different drivers.
