Do you guys think the 58X Jubilee is a great replacement over the Sennheiser HD 598 SR? I currently use my HD 598 for podcasts. Was thinking the 58X might be good for podcasts and audiobooks. What do you guys think? I also have the 6XX and 4xx on the way—March — but was thinking those might be overkill for podcasts and audiobooks. I tried my AKG 7xx but was too rich in sound for that type of media. Thank you!

Wondering about the same headphones comparison too. However, I want to know how the soundstage of the two compare.

The HD598 are not that bad, but in my opinion they are not that good. Never liked them. Never used them since I received my first pair of HD6XX. I never had goose bumps while listening to music with the HD598, unlike the HD6XX. I should sell them. Their only advantages: they don’t need any amp to drive them and they are relativeley confortable. Maybe they are adequate for TV and movie listening. But for music? I have no passion for the HD598. Then again they have no major flaws, unlike many headphones... but they just don’t do it for me.

Thanks for reply. I was asking for feedback on the 58X for podcast and audiobooks. It’s probably too premature for me to ask since nobody really has them. BTW, I’m looking forward to my 6XX in March. Very curious how they will compare to the 4XX.

Why would you need anything more than the HD598 for podcasts and audiobooks? I think the HD598 are good enough for such tasks, as I also recommended the HD598 for TV usage. Why would you spend more $ for a higher quality (I presume) headphone for audiobooks amd podcasts? If you plan to use them for music, that’s another story. I would recommend right away the HD6XX if you have what is needed to drive them (at least a headphone amp, many inexpensive models will do). I would presume that the HD58x is also a good choice for music based on the few reviews out there at this time (and you don’t need as much a headphone amp then with the HD6xx), but the graphs in the existing reviews show it has with less thick bass than the HD6XX. But for audiobooks, you shouldn’t care about the bass thickness or not... I wouldn’t spend my money on another headphone just for audiobooks when I already have a very decent headphone for this task such as the HD598.

That’s a great point, it is a bit overkill. Technically I gave my 598 to my son a few months ago. He barely uses it (I use them more 😅), so I figured I should get another set. Another bonus I may also use for traveling, since it doesn’t require much power.

If you need to buy a second set, I think these or the HD6xx are good choices. HD58x is somewhat a bet, since it doesn’t yet have a track record. Only a few people had the opportunity to try them out. But the 149$ price is a good reason to enter this bet. And Sennheiser as a manufacturer has a very safe and low risk track record, and their 600 series headphones have been praised by thousand of users for many years. So this is a rather safe bet to enter....

Either the 6XX or 58X would be good for podcast and audiobooks I'd say. Their warmer forward mids is great for vocals. Although 6XX might sound a bit veiled without a proper amp to push it out.

Yeah but when you can get sweeter more natural vocal sound, it makes it better. If you want more comfortable then just listen to it on speakers. And if you want headphones just for vocals then might as well get one that's good at it.

Sure, maybe, but the HD6xx mainly for audiobooks is an overkill. Any low to mid priced Sennheiser is good enough in my opinion for audiobooks. It’s your money. if you want to buy a headphone that can also play music on some occasions then it’s understandable. Otherwise I suggest to get a less expensive Sennheiser in the 400 or 500 series for example.

6xx calibre headphone is not needed for podcasts and audiobooks. Stick with something less $$$. Sennheiser HD 205 is great for vocals. Once in a while you can find them on sale on Amazon for less than $30. But usually they're around $47. I use a pair for movies/TV. Excellent bass response and very clear mids and treble. A lean/quick, energetic sound compared to the 6xx. Less detailed of course.

Thank you everyone for commenting. I'm keeping my order of the HD-58X Jubilee. Going to keep it for audiobooks, podcasts, and for traveling. I will test them to see how they compare with my other sets, and will share my feedback with you guys.
