View Full Discussion Happy is this audiophile...
Ooooh mama! You are one happy MD Audio fan!
Nah... You won't know true happiness until you have 10+ headphones.
How about having 4 ears or 2 heads to truly enjoy music like never before?
I was really close to buying the Jubilee too, but I had to use the money for 1st months rent deposit 😢
I have the same headphones stand... actually have 2 and is not enough.
So far they are good stand.
Here is a non-tidy version.
It is the microphone arm where I hang my headphones at home.
Nice! Is that the 598Cs second from the left?
How are the 4XXs compared to the 6XXs? How different is the sound?
With the 4XX I can hear details deep in the soundstage that are obscured with any other headphone I own. The 6XX on the other hand has a richer musicality, while still maintaining clarity. They are both great. The 58X in the one hour I had last night to listen to it brand new was also very satisfying, almost a lighter, slightly more neutral version of the 6XX to my ears.
I would also like to know. And if possible, comparison of the three plz...?
From the graphs it seems like the 58X is bassier which could go either way. It's good to hear that they aren't way bassier than the 6XX.
Keep in mind that I used my 58X for only around an hour last night, so the bass may very well open up more as burn-in occurs. (I am a believer in burn-in.)
I’ve been waiting for the 4XX for a while and there’s all this goodness floating around but that particular one is not been around yet for me. I need to plan our magnetic and that’s gonna be my first one and I am waiting :-)
If you can't take the wait any longer, there is a deal on ebay for the 400i for $150. Plus you won't have to wait six months for shipping.
Yeah I was looking at that too, or at least a listing very similar. But the price of an original being that much less brand new then a massdrop a remake had me question it. Are they both planner magnetics and equally as good quote as they Canby”?
Graphs indicate that they perform pretty similarly, and some reviews also say that. The biggest difference I saw was the build quality, with the 4XX being better than the 400i (which is infamous for being bad but having decent customer support). And yes, they're both planar magnetic.
nice trifecta. u like the build on the 4xx?
I've had mine only about 3 months, but so far so good. They are more awkward to wear then my Sennheisers, but they work and sound beautifully.
What stand is that if you don't mind me asking?
I would love to know what stand it is as well
The one in my pic is not headphones stand. It is microphones arm.
I just hang my headphones on it due to space.
MOCREO Headphone Hanger, Headphone Stand, Headset Stand, Headset Stand (Black)
After doing a little reasearch on the history of the jubilees (THE JUBILEES NOT THE HD580 PRECISIONS) they were basically hd600's before they came out, same tuned driver but a different housing.
If I remember correctly from the sennheiser jubilee video, the headphone engineer mentions its tuned to an hd 600
The 58x are basically 600's not the same housing though. Much like how the 660's are 700's drivers in a 650's housing.
When the grills are changed between the 1990 Carbon jubilees and the 600's you can't notice the difference.
Here by a man who reviews and modifies the limited run 1990's carbon 580 jubilees he mentions that the limited run carbons were 600 prototypes, hence why the difference was negligable when replaced with a 600 grill.
In this basically lore thread from 2001, man makes driver replacement comparisons between the 600 and 580 jubilee drivers price on sennheisers personal website before the 580's were discontinued. They both priced out the same at 50$ for ONE driver.
The hd580 jubilees and the hd600's are in fact the same driver just a different housing or grilling.
Sorry. I wanted to know which stand the OP. Had in his pic. (Longliverock) thought that timing was asking about that one as well as to why I finished my sentence like so.
Edit: nvm the top part. Thought the link was ment for me. Thanks for the answer ridhuankim
Ditto on what ridhuankim said. It's the Mocreo. I got mine on Amazon.
I edited it and added some source, there you go. Its hard to find recent source or any at all because most of it is from pre 2003 its even harder when it has to be the pre massdrop jubilees.
Same except I have the HE-350. :)
Which do you use the most? Got a favorite?
Over the past 38 hours I've been focusing on the 58X to get to know it better. But before it arrived, the 6XX was my "most used", driving it with the DarkVoice 336SE. The 4XX is also in regular rotation, again paired with the DV. I listen to 80% of my music at work however where I use 1more Quad Drivers.
I ordered a pair of 6XX a few months ago, I'm super excited. Was gonna get a schitt stack to power it.
Since you will be getting a dynamic headphones, you should get a planar next.
Massdrop sells Fostex TH-X0 and Hifiman 4XX which are Planar Headphones.
Fostex was my entry to Planar and I bought Monoprice 1060C after that.
It is not a matter of which one is better but more to what they excel at.
The first impression using planar was the bass.
I never though the word CLEAR could be used in describing the Bass frequencies and was the moment with first try on planar.
It does not mean I will be getting rid of my Sennheiser 6XX from MD nor will I be getting rid of Fostex TH-X00.
Also does not mean I will be getting rid of OTL Tube amps just because the Planars are power hungry.
They work very well and sounds lush with my LittleDot MK-IV SE.
Its a new experience and a good experience I hope you will enjoy in this audio enthusiest hobby.
It appears Hifiman 4XX is getting better review than the Fostex TH-X0 but it is up to you to research and decide along the way.
I hope this will keep you busy until and after you get your Sennheiser 6XX :)
And hell breaks loose as you will need to get rid of some of your headphones to fund buying new ones....
That is where I am...
Cannot choose which one to sell!
Unless you can afford all the headphones in the world...
HE-350 is also not bad.
It has tremendous energy at the high frequencies to get goosebumps.
I gave it away but I dont seems to find other headphones with that energy.
My complaint was the headband pressure and the hard ear pads.
I miss it.
