Okay I have received my 58X today and I'm listening to them now. I'm comparing them to my 6XX. First Impressions are that they're are very good. The box it comes it is much smaller than the 6XX. It's an over all simpler package. Comfort out of the box is also good. The dread clamp of the 6XX is largely absent from the 58X. Still very sturdy on the head.
As for sound quality. Definitely more forward in the vocals and mids than the 6XX. More bass as well but not overly done. They're certainly not "bass cans". I can hear more things in songs with the 58X than the 6XX which seem a bit darker in comparison. I'm trying to listen to a variety of genres to get a more over all impression. I'm listening from my Mac/iTunes via the Micca Origen+ DAC/Amp. Any questions just ask.
Mark_MPeople below say that the soundstage isn't very impressive. How would the soundstage compare to the HD 6XX? How is the imagery and sound seperation? I'm coming from Phillips SHP9500, hoping this will be a significant upgrade. Thanks, pumped to listen for myself.
PurpleLemonadeSoundstage is less on 58x than shp9500 (I own both) but bass is much better where as I feel the shp9500s have very little would say its a good upgrade in other areas as well though
PurpleLemonadeI don't think the soundstage is any wider on the 58X than the 6XX. But imagery and sound separation are very good. Sound is very clean. Bass is not muddy or bloated but it is more present on the 58X vs the 6XX. So far the 58X is quite good for orchestral type music.
