I upgraded to these headphones from my good old HD558s, also to at least somewhat compliment the upgrade I bought a Fiio E10K Dac/Amp so that I could at least drive these decently.
Comfort wise its actually a little bit of a downgrade, the HD58X is a comfortable headphone, but I cant stop feeling that Im wearing it like I could with the HD558, its mainly because of the stiffer pads. The headband is perfect however.
Sound wise it is a pretty big difference, I loved how the mids were so forward on the HD558, but they definetely lacked some oomph in the bass regions, the HD58X easily improves on that, while also managing to sound noticeably clearer.
However the mids arent as forward and maybe even not as present overall, its not a big difference but if I go back to my HD558s I always notice how the vocals pop a bit more.
Also I was expecting the HD58X to sound a little bit smoother, but Im guessing the E10K doesnt help with that.
Overall I am happy, I will rate these a 5, but truly these are more of a 4.5/5 stars. Great value especially compared that these cost less than what I paid for my HD558s.
