View Full Discussion You guys better jump on these, and not make the same big mistake like last time. My HD-6XX is put to bed since these arrived. I also put a nice warm blanket over my 4XX and AKG-7XX, they are now sleeping. 58X BABY!
You really prefer the 58X over the 6XX? Too me is almost too close to tell. I can notice a difference in sound but to me they're more complimentary than one being better than the other.
There is more bass in the 58X which I think have a more V-shaped sound than the 6XX. The 58X seem more lively compared to the 6XX which seem more neutral. Both have great clarity and detail though but I may have to give the edge to the 6XX on that. Although not by much.
how does about soundstage in HD58X ?
It's interesting you find the 58X v-shaped as its signature is almost identical to the 6XX where the latter has better upper mids (by a few dB in areas). The 58X only has a slight, tasteful bump in bass by a few dB as well:
58X in green, 6XX/650 in orange
Personally for me, I prefer the 58X over the 6XX mainly due to speed of transients and it's more lively sound. The 6XX is just a bit too smoothed over for my music genres of choice.
The soundstage for the 58X (and 6XX) is just OK. They're not known for being the most open cans anyhow but they're not closed off by any means either. They're absolutely average in that regard but the soundstage is realistic and not exaggerrated.
Many peoples here, prefer 58X over the 6XX, very interesting, and 58X costs less $50 =). I just buy HD579 recently, i love them, my doubt is, worth buy the 58X ?
Soundstage should be Like in AKG K240 MKII, so.
As much as I love the humble HD 579, it falls short in every regard to the 58X. Whether that's extension on both ends, soundstage, imaging, separation, transients, etc. It is however less amp picky, easier to drive, and a smooth mellow sound. The 58X will extract more from your music while giving you better resolution. With that being said the 58X is more of an intro to HiFi headphone. For the dollar it is very good. The 6XX is also a good headphone if you have the amp to push it as intended and really does excel with specific genres of music. The 58X excels for me with the added low end extension and speed which works great for the blues, soul, funk, and RnB. I like the 6XX more for classic rock and acoustic pieces as it does have better imaging and separation and a wonderful mid-range..
It all really boils down to you equipment and what music you like.
Sounds good man! Can i listen eletronic music in 58X or even gaming ? Im not a basshead. HD579, have amount bass for that, graet allrouder for music.
The 58X is definitely better for electronic music (I listen to Diplo, Gramatik, Tropkillaz, Mura Masa, Great Dane, etc.) than the 6XX but not as much so as say the TRX00 Ebonies. I use them for gaming as well and prefer them to something like my Sony Golds. Sonically they are superior and have just enough bass and impact to be pleasant. Dynamic range and imaging is good. They have a good height and depth but aren't the widest sounding cans (not really a dealbreaker IMO). Again, I still prefer something like the TRX00 (except for soundstage), but for being able to cover so many different scenarios at this cost, the 58X is solid. I'm just being nitpicky to avoid too much bias.
Awesome reply man!! Thanks. No more doubts. 😉
I have 4xx and m50
What do you prefer for me to complete my collection ?
58x or 6xx
Why you do not like the smoothness of the sound ?
Go with 58X first, signature is very close of HD6XX series and cost $50 less than 6XX.
So it sounds closer to the 650 than the 660 ??
Looking the mesurements, apparently yes. But I never heard the 58x.
Weird, I thought I responded to this post. The soundstage imo isn’t wide at all, it’s just like the 6XX -not very narrow, but narrow enough.
Yes, but not by a lot. I enjoy the 6XX more, for podcasts and YouTube.
