I've got to say HD 58X is really a game-changer regarding performance-to-price ratio. IMO this headphone sonically outperforms HIFIMAN HE400i, AKG K612/K712, Fostex TH-X00 when it comes to neutrality, technicalities and lack of significant flaws. A jack of all trades indeed.
K712? Are you sure? I heard them against an HD800S with multiple Amplifiers and still the K712 was so similar to the 800s it was shocking... So nice sounding headphones... I cannot wait to receive the 58X to try them against the K712 and HD6XX...
K712's are my main headphone at this time, even over my LCD XC's, so I'll be interested to see if these can knock them off the throne. The LCD's are amazing, just to heavy for long listening sessions. I can only put up with them for an hour or so. I guess I'll bite the bullet and order these and see for myself.
Still haven't receive the 58X but in my opinion having heard many many of the medium/high priced headphones out there the AKG712 pro with a good amp is still the most beautifull sounding headphone. For movies though I prefere the HD650 as it can take more power before distortion so fo heavy bass of explosions end effects is better. My only complain with the AKG is that supports very little wattage before start distorting... But if I had to choose only one headphone to keep for all genre I would pick the K712 for now even before the 800s which I had listen for extended period of time.
