I own HD598 and bought HD58X, the first impression when I plugged in the HD58X to computer with internal sound card (sound blaster z), the bass is more than HD598, BUT the sound stage is weaker than HD598 and not so clear/crystal as HD598, however for me, the bass is a supplement, so right or wrong it depends on what you need. That's it.

Wait for them to break in, you might have an entirely different opinion about these headphones..

From what I've seen, 58xx is recommended more for music and movies, not gaming.

It definitely excels for music and movies, however I've tried them with gaming and found the results to be rather pleasant there as well.

Put at least 100+ hours on them before you judge them.

This. I hate the kind of reviews where people listen to the headphones for only like 10 minutes and base their entire experience around that. It takes time. I don't give a verdict on a pair of cans until I've had them for at least a week, if not longer.
