Now that I have these, I love them but they are a little underpowered plugging straight into the computer. Hence I need a DAC/AMP combo.
I'm thinking of getting the R2R + 789 combo. Does anyone have any thoughts if this will be a good fit?
789.... I didn't realize decimals that small even existed. Certainly god tier spec's for current hungry headphones with lower impedance like planars. Not much of a monster in terms of voltage though (single ended). I want to say way more than enough headroom available for 58x.
I don't buy into the R2R stuff. Never heard it :(. In theory R2R makes a difference listening to 16bit audio, but I must be missing something of how it could possibly help at 24bit. The errors it is trying to correct (or rather avoids producing) is so freakin small. THD+N at 1 kHz: 0.08% is far from impressive. People don't seem to mind the kind of added noise R2R's add though. Just my thoughts. Huge enthusiasts with larger wallets may have a more positive opinion. With that said, I'm sure it sounds damn good anyway.
I'm driving them just fine from an FX Audio DAC-X6. Would recommend it if you're willing to wait for the shipping.
