Hey I did the mod and it was very easy to do.
How is the sound?
The headphones are less warm now and the bass extension feels nicer.
The sound is more airy and feels more fresh! Because the muddiness got reduced.
Also the treble is a bit more pronounced and still far from fatiguing.
I definitely recommend the mod, because it is very easy to do.
In addition to that, the sound quality improves for like 7-9%.
How to do it?
1. Buy a black 1mm soft felt from your local store. Black because it fits the color scheme and soft for more air.
2. Cut the felt, luckily the diameter of the driver is exactly like a 5 cent coin (Im from Germany).
3. Cut the double sided tape into little pieces and apply them on the driver. I used four pieces on each driver.
4. Smash your felt onto the driver and profit.
The bass boost on the fiio e10k is a WAY BETTER with this mod.
Stock 58x with fiio bass boost was horrible, the bass was too much and muddy.
Sound stage feels more closed.
The bass boost feels just right now. Not muddy and sound stage is preserved.
Sound quality increased to 12% instead of 7-9% like before^^
i changed my mind, its freakin 20% now. Its like another world.
Wow, thanks for the info, ill definitely try it out when possible.
Btw, which dac/amp would u recommend that's under the 100 dollar price range and is portable for phone usage??
Cool, are these just amplifiers or are they also dacs?? Bc I mainly need a dac to clean up the music signals, also an amp but that's not the main thing due to the fact that these headphones are 150 ohms..
I use a Fulla 2 two which is a combo Amp/DAC, it works great for the price.
For people looking for an easy way to do this mod I myself used these felt 1 inch diameter felt circle pads I found on amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0143J3OZQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
When I removed the screen covers under the grills the clarity of the music became less veiled for me.
When I added these circles it went back to being slightly veiled in the mid/sub mid (for me), but the sound stage is a bit wider... well more than a bit from what I can tell... its a definite improvement on the sound stage's width.
I used double sided tape to fasten the felt circles. I put the tape on and used an exacto blade to precicely cut them to the exact size of the drivers once the tape was on them. then once i covered the whole top of the drivers with the tape i put the felt circles on it.
Very easy mod and cheap.
I'll add a picture tomorow when its daylight
Thanks for the information! I tried this mod to, and it definitively help improving the lows and low midrange - they sound more controlled and as extended as before.
I got the 58x and Fiio e10k and played around like you did and I do agree: the mod with bass boost on the e10k is an amazing combo. You get the punch of the bass with the soundstage of the mod and if you prefer less bass for some songs just flip the switch!
