Possibly the best bang for the buck cans money can buy. Also try removing the foam inserts to get a closer sound to the HD660S. Props to Zeos for that little mod.
Got mine yesterday, excellent headphones, I like them better than the HD 600. I should have mentioned I took the foam pads out of the headphones, Definite improvement.
I have the HD600's. Is the low end better? And soundstage? Thanks!
Or if you can share any differences between the 2.
BTW I also have the HE4XX lol. Love the sub bass and soundstage on that one. :)
I have listened to the HD 58X and HD 6XX side-by-side, and the HD 600 separately on another occasion. Here's what I can say definitively. The 6s both have a noticeably more open sound stage. This makes sense since the 58s have a foam insert behind the grill. However, I did not feel the bass response was significantly different between the three. The foam insert on the 58s sacrifice a bit of sound stage for imaging, meaning the sound is literally closer (there is less leakage) and so you may feel more of the bass in the 58s than you do in the 6s. But is that actual sound or just transducer effect (???) These are practically the same drivers after all. My wholly unprofessional guess is that, in a quiet environment, with no external sounds messing up your experience, the bass would sound exactly the same in all three headphones. But the addition of that foam insert means the 58X bass can be enjoyed just a little bit more anywhere, making them a bit more of a 'generalist' headphone and less a 'critical listening' headphone... if that makes sense.
I own the 6XXs, 58Xs and the 4XXs and I have solid state and tube amp, the 58Xs to my ears have significantly more bass than the 6XX and the 4XX.. I have done a fair amount of A/B testing between the three.. They are a bit narrower and the imaging on the 4XX is far superior but out of the three they are my go to (58X) set to listen to.. They play very well with my music preferences, rock/classic rock/metal just from the fact that they do have more punchy bass.. I do most of my listening through the darkvoice and that can add some extra sound stage and punch.. Don't use the solid state much because of that..
Thanks for your analysis. I was considering if I need to remove the foams, but after reading yours I will probably keep it intact.
