HD 600 offers more clarity and balanced sound. Too dark and bassy.
I think they do not cost the same, in fact the HD 600 cost almost double. They are better if, but for the price I have 58x are spectacular and more off-road than the HD 600 in my opinion because they require more power and does not have that extension in bass that for many musical genres in my opinion is a great value.
Ye their okay. But that Sennheiser veil of old is there. I just dont like how people compare these to hd660s a headphone tree times the price. They are definitely not as dynamic or clear.
Reguarding bass extension this is an old trick by dynamic headphone manufacturers, to increase the subbass since they cannot really reach that low.
From the reviews everywhere I was expecting allot more.
Well, I would'nt say HD 600 are "better" or "worse" than HD 58x. I would say they play in the same category, and are just different - 600 being more linear, 58x on the warm side of neutral. Did you try to mod your set ? A tiny piece of foam on the driver helps a lot making bass and low mids sound more controlled.
That is probably a more accurate description. I did remove the large foam on the outer side of the drivers. This did not do that much for the sound.
Apparently, those foam rings placed on the inside-face of the gills have no real acoustic effect. It seems they are here to protect the drivers from dust. But by gluing a 1mm thick piece of felt on the back of the driver, you can tame a little that slightly exaggerate bass that makes the 58x sound a little bloated. It results in something better balanced, pretty close to the HD 650 but less "veiled". You'll find an accurate description of this mod and its effect on this page : http://www.mediafire.com/file/8dr7hp34vq11aag/HD58X+evaluation.pdf
I'm not a guru in this audio either, nor do I expect to be the truth. but I had the chance to have the HD 660s at home for a month. I made a lot of modifications to the HD 58x with different felts and thicknesses. My final conclusion is that I could not tune it as well as the guys from Sennheiser but if these headphones do not have the value of 4 or 5 stars for their price much less the HD 660s for its current price. finally I returned the HD 660s and instead got a hifiman edition x V2. and comparing these with the 58x hd I can continue saying that they have a great value for its price, great versatility and very efficient.
Yes it is hard to retune what the manufacturers already do. And we agree they are good for the price, if you like the sound. I really like the pics and the modding... I like that as part of this hobby looking have personally modded the srh940 to good results.
Did you get the guide from diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com?
yes. from that page I took many references to make my modifications. but I want to make clear that for my taste if they are better both the HD 600 and the HD 660s but the HD 58x are very good for their price and versatility, even without the mod I still have the edition V2 use, do not reach the same Clear level is but neither sound so bad because of the price difference between them. the only thing I do not understand a value of 2 stars only, I'm sorry;) I understand that you love the HD 600 because they are easy to love if you like good sound, but remember 150 dollars
