I have these connected to a Astro MixAmp which is connected to my computer through usb. I also connect them to my Surround Sound Reciever often. Anyone have any Amp recommendations for these applications for mostly gaming and movies? Thanks!
fiio e10k, smsl m3, any other cheapish amp/dac combo out there really but I'd recommend those two the most.
Especially the e10k for movies because of the bass boost switch which is super nice for action movies :3
Just bought a SoundblasterX G6, ill give my thoughts. However, Sennheizer GSX1000 may also be an effective and multipurpose unit
I have HD 598 + FiiO E10K and the built in headphone socket can't drive them very well.
It easily has sufficient volume, but the bass is weak, the highs are rough, they sound thin, and the sound becomes loose and flubbery on louder passages. The boost switches only make this much worse.
I have an old homemade high end preamp with a grunty headphone socket on hand, so I feed that from the FiiO line out and use it to drive the 598s, which makes them come to life - sweet, smooth, clear, deep bass, sub bass on the threshold of being felt. FiiO E10K seems to be a good value DAC for driving a separate amplifier with musically pleasing results, but the built-in headphone socket is mediocre.
I saw someone complaining about how they tried a bunch of 5x/6x series Sennheisers on the E10K and found them all sounding the same (thin and lifeless). They did not realise you cannot tow a 50 foot luxery yacht with a moped.
