Fantastic headphones that get even better when taking out the outer foam and driving them balanced. These headphones literally sing when driven with a balanced amp. The difference is truly apparent. Everything comes forward and to the sides for even more sound stage. The details and articulation are noticeable on vocals especially, where you hear every word. While they do suffer from the Sennheiser clamp, they are still very comfortable and I can wear them for a few hours before they start to really bug me. I also wear glasses. The velour pads are pretty comfortable, not sure if I would ever change them out. The included cable is ok, I ordered a custom cable from MD recently, and bought a sweet balanced cable $79 on amazon that works fantastic. They were not one of my favorite headphones until I heard them balanced. Try it! Let me know what you think below.
I run mine off my Onkyo NR-787 and they sound fantastic. I can only imagine what they sound like balanced. These really are worth every penny of $150.
is the connection not balanced if i connect to my interface w/ the included 1/4inch adapter?
It's not. You need a new cable with a 4 pin XLR connection into a balanced amp. Not a cheap thing to do, but it brings the headphones to another level in sound quality. Instead of the headphones sharing a ground, each side gets fed it's own ground, giving you even more seperation for L and R information.
What DAC/Amp setup do you use? I'm starting to explore more into audiophile headphones.
Right now I have a 598SE driven by a Fiio E10K. Starting to look to dive into other things and know more
I'm using a SMSL SU-8 for the balanced DAC and a Loxjie P20 balanced tubed headphone amp. Incredible combination.
Thanks for that! Sure should start reading and understanding more of how these things work and matter!
Yep-Balanced Loxjie P20 tube amp.Sound great.Wider sound stage!
