Are these headphones compatible with the GameDac amp that comes with the SteelSeries Arctis Pro gaming headsets? I don't quite have the money to get an amp just yet, so I was wondering if I could use the GameDac in the time being as a substitute.

JaegerBCLI was going to say absolutely, but then I looked it up, on the steelseries website that GameDac is only rated to 80 ohm impedance headphones (these are 150 ohm) and the output is only 49mW to 32 ohm. Very odd for an external audio card. I suspect your native audio output on your desktop or any higher end laptop actually has better driving capability. For example, my Dell Inspiron 5577 has a 2W output natively on the audio jack. Honestly though you'll probably be fine, you can plug them in and noise will come out but they might not be optimal.

mikeflowHuh. That is odd. It seems to make the Arctis Pro Headphones sound really good, but then again, I don't believe I have ever used it without the amp to compare. Thanks for the response! Do you happen to have a recommendation on a decent $100-$200 amp for an aspiring audiophile to start out with? :)

JaegerBCLTo be honest I don't, I don't own any external amps. I make a point of buying headphones I can run without extra stuff. If I were you I'd buy the headphones and then decide if you really want to amplify them. They may a) sound great on your existing external sound card despite its specs or b) sound great out of your native audio card. If not, then go spend some money on an amp! These HD58Xs are meant to be easy to drive, that's why I went this direction.

JaegerBCLSoundblaster g5 if you want to use it for gaming and music. The amp and dac used is awesome. For $100 it's an amazing device. I don't use surround sound in gaming but if you want surround on PS4 or Xbox then spend $150 and get the g6. I own several fiio amps and the 02 and I prefer the g5 and the g6. Very little difference between the 2 for me except the surround on consoles that I don't like. A huge plus is the soundblaster software. U can load profiles onto the g5/g6 or do like me and leave it hooked to my laptop and ps4 so I can tweak the EQ non-stop

GregvandyAwesome. Thanks for the information! I'm probably going to go with one of those then.

JaegerBCLThe hd58x does sound great thru a g5 and really a g5/g6 could power about any headphone there is but I would think a PC with a decent sound card would power them although not like a g5 would. I did try my hd58x and hd660s with the hyperx sound card, it's the little $20 dongle with surround capabilities that hyperx packages with some cloud & revolver headphones and that little dongle was able to push both of those headphones pretty well. I'd like a little more power for music but it was not bad and sounded surprisingly good for gaming
