I should have gotten these sooner...and also never.
So, I got these back in August of 2020 at the $120 price because I was bored like a lot of people during the lockdown, so I figured "Hey, why not start the expensive hobby of audiophilia instead of exercise or take in nature or something healthy and more cost effective?" For years I was using Sound BlasterX H7, which were fine. They served their purpose and I remember (all but the hot ears that come with closed-back headsets) them fondly.
This headset is probably the best and worst audio purchase I had made in some time.
Best because they genuinely are fantastic for the price and I'll fight anyone that disagrees. I'll probably lose, but I'll still fight them.
Worst because they are genuinely fantastic and I'm already bad with impulse buys and I pick up too many expensive hobbies, so now less than a year later, I have the HD6XX, DT770 Pro, and, for no other reason than just to have since it was on sale at the time of writing this, the HD58X, all the willpower to hold me back from buying the HifiMan Sundara, two desktop headphone amps (one tube, one solid state) and nothing to show for it other than being the audio snob I once used to make fun of.
These are great if you want to dip your toes into a higher quality, no-frills (ie fake 7.1 audio, directional footstep mode, blah blah blah) headset without doing the whole "higher end headphones with a whole extra cable for a ModMic" or something (which I'm also doing now, too. God help me).
To be honest, all the complaining about the tight headband out of the box is pretty common Sennheiser stuff from my understanding. Just leave the headset on the box it came with to stretch them out overnight or something until they fit to your size. That's what I did, just my two cents.
I left only 4 stars because, as good as the mic is, and it really is good, if not the best for a gaming headset, I wish it included the little foam ploom cover to help just a little extra with filtering those P and S sounds.
Would recommend to a friend.
