for those wondering if you need a AMP/DAC with these, the answer is: NO. These only have an impedance of 50ohms and at roughly 55+ ohms do you ever need a AMP/DAC to hear any differences.
From a volume standpoint, no you don't need an AMP to drive these at all, they can get loud with your built in audio.
You can still improve the sound quality depending on your sound card and what DAC you pair it with though.
While the PC37X is indeed easy to drive, please don't make up the reason for it. Where did you get the 55 ohm magic number from? Impedance is not the only factor for amplifier matching. Sensitivity and the type of driver play a role as well. This advice made me cringe so hard.
Can you get a sufficiently loud volume from a 20ohm, 103 dB SPL/mW, planar magnetic headphone if you plug it directly into a smartphone?
Yes, but anyone and their family can tell it will sound so lifeless. I just described the Audeze LCD-X. Has any LCD-X owner or reviewer advised not getting an amp? After all, it's only "20 ohms"
