Hello, and welcome to the page of the 1st Massdrop made backpack called the Shadow.
First and foremost, the Shadow was designed with all day comfort in mind. Getting the fit just right with no need for a waist belt took over 8 months in the development process. In the end, the harnesses 3 dimensional body mapping shape fits perfectly while your body is on the move.
With the 2 attachment points on each side and the dual harness connections on sliders, the Shadow can dialed in for a very stable fit and suitable as a pack you can run with. With a light and fast approach, the pack can be filled with a weekends worth of fun! While most harness styled packs need to fit similar to a large running pack, the Shadows generous size can easily fit a dedicated ultralight overnight gear-list.
The Shadow doesn't stop here. With its attractive high-end looks, it works exceptionally well as a day pack, with the ability to pack in a long days worth of just about anything, and get you through the day in style and comfort.
The Shadow is made with a durable and strong 210 denier fabric, so it's built to last. There's also 6 pockets , so you're able to stow a variety of gear in easy to reach locations. You even have a bottom pocket for quick reach items without needing to take the pack off. With a wide variety of uses and stowage options, along with being the perfect size, the Shadow is ready to go anywhere and do anything. Along with an attractive price point, I hope you enjoy the many benefits and features of the Shadow.
Also, for sizing purposes, I'm 5' 11" with a 38" chest.
The Med/Large will fit me great for hiking, but would need the small/medium to be able to run with it. The small/ medium would be a much better fit for someone my size.
They will be updating the torso fit shortly, but for chest size, I would only go with the med/large if you have a 42 inches circumference chest or more.
Thank you, Aaron Sorensen

Hi all, Wanted to share a quick update on the Massdrop x Sorensen Shadow 28L Fast Pack. Production is underway and we’re very happy with the results thus far. We do want to give you a heads up that we are tracking about two weeks behind schedule and we now expect shipping to begin in late March. During extended wear trials, we found the fabric used for the external pockets wasn’t as strong as we’d like, so we switched to a fabric that is aesthetically identical to the original fabric and much more durable. We apologize for this delay. If you’d prefer not to wait the additional time, your order can be canceled via your Transactions page: https://www.massdrop.com/transactions. We’ll be back with another update as soon as the packs arrive at our warehouse.

Looks like a good backpack. Considering the capasity and one of the photos, don’t buy it to be a running backpack. Too big.

The ultimate direction fastpack 25 would be very close. i think Solomon makes some similar 25l vest based fastpacks. If you want a little bigger the Six moon designs FKT pack would be worth looking at. All options a lot pricier than this pack

Correction: I mis-typed my email address: meallinson27 at gmail dot com Original post: I'll take you up on that offer. $50+ shipping to your location. I haven't taken mine outdoors yet, just tried to load up what I wanted to put in it for a 1 overnight & it's a little bit small for what I carry. I've made no mods to it either. Let me know if you are interested and send me your mailing address. You can reach me at mwallinson27 at gmail dot com and you can send paypal or venmo there too. Matt

Just got my small/medium vest, was a bit disappointed. Basically the whole reason I purchased this was for run commuting and wanted a vest style backpack with front bottle pockets similar to a Salomon vest. What I found was the vest straps seem ok, be it a very stiff material that does not conform to the body particularly well. Side stretch pockets are very large and should be suitable for stuffing lightweight waterproof jackets/pants easily, they would not be suitable for standard 500-600ml bottles as they are far too spacious. Top opening pocket is large and has a nice area to accommodate a bladder and has a precut hose opening on the top of the pack. Compression straps are near useless as they only compress the top of the back, this causes items to slip lower in the pack and jump around quite a bit if it's not packed to the brim. Front bottle pockets are a joke, if they can even be called bottle pockets... I could not even fit a standard 500ml Salomon soft flask in them, I managed to squeeze a hard bottle but the material lacks and stretch it distorts the entire front chest strap rear and digs into the skin, it seems to accommodate a phone sized item well, maybe up to a phablet sized phone (iPhone 7 in front pocket for scale of pocket stretch issue), they are only about 3.5 - 4 inches deep inches deep

I just got the 28L pack and it doesn't seem to fit very well. I'm 5'9", 155lb, 38" chest, 20" torso length as you measure for fitting a backpack. I put 20 pounds in it so see where the pieces of the pack wanted to move. The bottom touches my tailbone, which feels really low, and the shoulder straps pucker out a bit so they don't lie against the body. I cinched the side straps some, then all the way (no adjustment left). It feels better that way, but still touches the tailbone. @AaronSorensen, would the smaller pack ride higher? The length of the M/L shoulder strap from where it's sown on the back to the bottom of it on the front is 20". Is the S/M shoulder strap shorter so that the pack might ride higher on the body?

I have the small/medium one and also find that it rides way too low and that it makes it uncomfortable. Also the straps rub under my arms. It's a very disappointing product.

I received mine today. I am not a runner, but I long distyance hike and backpack and I hate hip belts with a passion. I can reach the pockets but I'll be damned to be able to pull anything out of them without taking the pack off. However, this pack is the easiest to take on and off out of any pack I have ever owned, even when cinched up. The harness is comfortable and rides real well. I have 12 pounds on it right now on the trail and I can say this pack is my favorite.

Just got back home from walking the dog around the trails in and around town. Ran up a few climbs and ran down a few descents, too. Pack rides better than any other running pack I have used and it's the first pack ever that doesn't strain my shoulders, it seems the weight rides the most on my upper back and pectoral muscles, which is way more comfortable and my shoulders have extra range of motion, it seems. The material could be stretchier or they could have at least used a little extra material to put a pleat at the bottoms of the pockets to make them roomier. That's the only complaint I have, right now. I dig the super minimal frame sheet, too. Kept the load in the pack from jabbing at my back. Very easy to stabilize the load. Again, this has become my favorite pack rather quickly.

Hi folks. I have ordered the small/medium pack, but now that I have seen the Q&A video I think that the medium/large would be better suited for me. Is there by chance someone out there that bought the M/L and wants to change to S/M ? If so, let me know, and we'll try to work the change with the help of the support team.

Hello everyone,
I wanted to give everyone an update on the pack you will receive.
I just got the pack that came from the factory. There were a few changes for the better from the primary in-house pack I used prior to the drop.
First and foremost is the quality of the pocket fabric. It is now about 50% stronger. It is now about 5% elastic vs about 8-10% but the strength is much better and is now suited for outdoor activities.
2nd is the stash pocket. There is plenty of room for a wallet, phone and keys.
Last but not least is the removable pad that will fit bladder with the pad still inside the pocket. . There is also a thru-hole for the bladder tube.
I will reply to the comments asking for photos of the inside of the pack on those messages as well.
In the photo is a side by side of both sizes. My wife is also 5' 4" with a small frame and the small / medium fit her and she was able to cinch the pack tight enough to run with it.
Thank you for your support and especially Massdrop for allowing me to make a vision come true.

A few questions:
1. The bottom pocket looks like things might fall out. Is this design final? any chance of folding the fabric over a few time on the bottom pocket wide opening to help reduce this? Similar to what Pa'lante pack v2 did. 2. A draw string on the 2 front pockets would be useful, I have had things fall out of pockets like this before. Esspecially, with running. 3. Could you post a picture of the inside of the pack? I would like to look at the stitching.

The fabric is stitched from the edge toward the center about 1 1/2" from each corner. If it's water bottles you'll think will come out, you can put the cap into the back stiching.
Other than that, the curve of the bottom when load does a great job at keeping everything in place
The pocket is not 3d shaped. There is no need for a drawstring.
All the stitching is double stitched with a 1/2" grosgrain added to the bottom. Sorry, I do not have a pack with me for the photo.
