I just got mine today and I'm really underwhelmed. The basic pack design is sound and the shoulder straps are comfortable but, man, has Massdrop dropped the ball on execution. As others have pointed out, the stretch pockets are a disaster. They have very little stretch, the opening is stitched way too taught and you can't reach into the side pockets. The only useful one is the large front pocket but, on my pack at least, it seems to have more stretch in the vertical than in the horizontal where I would expect the opposite. The roll top is like none I have ever seen, used or made: instead of going around the whole of the bag the stiffener only covers the front panel and the rest is limp as a wet biscuit. As for the small buckle it is attached to a wafer-thin piece of grosgrain which itself is only very lightly sewn to the back panel only. Speaking of lightweight sewing, the straps are just attached to the back panel with a simple rectangle of thin thread, not even an X-box. All in all, this pack bears the hallmark of having been made by a manufacturer with zero experience of manufacturing a hiking backpack. None of the above can't be fixed with a seam ripper, proper stretch fabric and a sewing machine but I was expecting a fastpack rather than something that needs to be rebuilt into what it should have been.

BalaganThe pack that was going to go into production had pockets that with more spandex and could easily fit a large phone in the front pockets. However the pockets were not sewn in correctly and ripped with ease. The inside grosgrain stitching was not stitched over the pocket stitching, meaning all the force on the pocket tore the stitches. The fix for them was to switch to this material rather than fix the stitching issue. Hope everything works out as is.

BalaganCompletely agree. Seam at roll top with possible sewing machine malfunction. Ripped and resewn by me. Next item was attaching my own strip of webbing on inside and oversewing shoulder strap attachments to give them some needed strength. I actually like the beefier stretch material as I’m mostly trail running/bushwhacking but the front pockets are going to only hold gels. Agree on backpanel and need for rolltop stiffener to go both sides. I do use water bladders so would have liked an attachment hook. I ended up attaching a thin waist strap because I couldn’t keep the bounce down with a full bladder. Fabric is nice but again I prefer a bit beefier material so appreciated the fabric selection. I had hoped for better stitch quality—loose threads, uneven seams etc. overall the price was right but needs some manufacturing improvement.
